"Our project they performed for us was a takedown of an an old existing wood retaining wall and installing a new concrete block wall and steps. Fantastic design and building around 100 feet of wall and steps. They insured that there was proper drainage by installing good drain material behind the wall so no buckling of it could ever occur and good drain outlets were installed. It looks great and we have had many compliments on it and their work. We would not hesitate to call them on other projects we might need."

"Flores Landscaping is wonderful. They responded to my call the same day and came out to look at the pump in my birdbath waterfall feature. They tried to clean up the old pump but that didnâ t help so I opted to replace the pump. They did that job at very reasonable cost and within 2 days of calling my waterfall/birdbath is working fantastically! Itâ s been years of limping along with the old pump and I am so thrilled to find Flores Landscaping who finally solved the problem for me. I will be using them for irrigation projects on my property as well. They really know what they are doing, friendly, calm, easy to deal with. I am very excited to have found them. Reasonable prices."

"I wanted to transform my backyard and the first step in doing so was to install sod. I had contacted one other landscaper prior to this and it took him 2 weeks to reschedule a consultation and even longer to receive a quote. This did not give me much confidence that the job would be completed relatively soon. That's when I turned to Google and found Angi's list. Vinny responded within less than one hour. I met with him the next day. He provided a quote at the end of our consultation and began prepping the area within one week. He re-framed the area, removed the weeds, added top soil, installed sod, and trimmed the lemon tree all within one week of meeting him. I highly recommend Vinny for all of your landscaping needs. "

"Brian and his crew were hardworking and knowledgeable. They listened to what we needed and provided it with friendly efficiency. We needed to tweak a couple of things, but there was no problem, and we are thrilled with the final results. We now have beautiful stable flagstones and a lush new lawn with a path. Brian followed up by coming by later to check on the new sprinkler system, and made the necessary adjustments. I would definitely recommend him, and have already done so."

"Jose and Saul are not your average landscapers. They are well versed in landscape design, cement work, plant and legume knowledge, construction and property management. They have been in my employ for over twenty years. They are friendly, bilingual and timely in their appointments. I highly recommend Sola de La Vega!"

"I would very highly recommend Sola de Vega. They removed our old grass and some soil, sprayed the area with an herbicide to prevent unwanted grasses from returning, installed a gopher/mole guard, replaced the sprinkler heads, and installed new topsoil and sod. Saul was very quick to respond to our request for a bid and was very reasonable in his estimate and final costs for the project. I can't speak highly enough to characterize his professionalism, rapid follow-up to our questions and concerns, and great communication and friendly demeanor. The project was completed on time, including installation and clean-up, and the results were beautiful."

"Aaron was (seriously) a "yard whisperer " We had a tired conventional 1960's yard and wanted a low water low maintenance fresh look. He understood my ideas and improved on them with up lights and lights in the beds along the house. He was very inclusive about the choices of the plants and placement. Moreover he stayed within the budget. His installers were efficient and knowledgeable and polite. Thank you Aaron for our gorgeous view!"

FAQs for sod installation projects in Santa Rosa, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
