"I had old style yellow oak kitchen cabinets. Instead of tearing them out, I decided to reface with MadCity. They were professional, efficient and did excellent work. My cabinet doors were re-made in a newer more modern style, the hinges are now on the inside and slow close, and the finish is beautiful. I am now proud of my kitchen. I would recommend MadCity based on quality of their product and work. These have a lifetime guarantee and being local, I am confident in their service in the future (though I'm doubting I will have issues). Great experience from sale to installation."

"<p>My experience with The Kitchen Master was totally positive from the moment I walked into the showroom all the way to when my kitchen was finished. I had never had anything remodeled before and didn’t even know which questions to ask.</p> <p>Jennifer was so helpful. She explained to me the differences between cabinets, woods and finishes. She told me the different ways the cabinets could be constructed. I left with a good deal of material to go over, showing a lot of what she told me.</p> <p>The next step was to meet with Adam Hartig, the designer. His attention to detail was remarkable. We were part of the process of designing our kitchen every step of the way. He wanted us to have the kitchen that suited us best, and he stayed within the budget we were willing to spend. He gave us ideas that we never knew existed, and many were incorporated into the design. Adam was in constant contact with us the entire time. </p> <p>Tom Myers was the project manager. Since our house was built in 1970 and had the original kitchen, he knew they would run into some issues. He tried to plan in advance to correct anything that needed to be done so the kitchen would be up to code by today’s standards. He advised us to upgrade our electrical before the project started, which we did. We had constant lines of communication with Tom as well.</p> <p>The best part of the experience for us was Jason, who built our new kitchen. Not only is he an amazing craftsman and a very hard worker, but he was also very accommodating to us when we had questions or needed access to a part of the house that we had to get to through the kitchen.</p> <p>I also want to emphasize how clean he was. Plastic sheeting went up all around the kitchen before any work was started. At the end of every day, he cleaned everything. We didn’t find drywall dust or wood dust anywhere, including in the kitchen. At the end of the project, he cleaned the entire kitchen until it was spotless.</p> <p>Sometimes, the job needed more than one person, and at those times Ricardo came out to help. He had the same work ethic as Jason did. </p> <p>I was very impressed with the attention to even the smallest of details that everyone we worked with had. My new kitchen is perfect in every way, and everyone who worked with us had that as the goal. We have other projects in line in the future, and there is no doubt that when these projects are done, it will be by The Kitchen Master.</p> <br />"

"It went great. After we agreed to a style (had I bet 70 - 100 to choose from) their measurement man arrived as scheduled. He was fantastic (his name is Brian). When he found that the old counter had spacing between it and the wall, he realized that the outside wall was not perfect. So he went to his truck and returned with material to create a model for the new counter. He did not hurry and in fact was meticulous with sizing and calculations. He was also cordial and professional thoughout. He suggested the single piece again (the salesperson, Dennis, was the first to suggest this technique). <br /> <br /> The counter and the setup people arrived on time on the date selected. Steve was the central setup person and was excellent. He took everything out with the salesperson - Dennis - as his assistant. The single unit fit perfectly! There was no need for any trim as the old counter had (that trim had covered the spacing between the wall and the old counter). Steve was also an excellent plumber as he insisted that the plumbing to the new sink be perfect. <br /> <ol> <li>My wife and I are very pleased with the new counter and the professional job done putting it in! We will call Dennis immediately if we ever need to do more.</li> </ol>"

"It went very well.  It took a few weeks for the materials to be prepared.  I had more work done than what the big deal offered.  I was generally pretty happy with the service but at first they made a few errors and the installers did not seem to know how to cut the edges of the cabinets."

"THE CRAFTSMANSHIP EXPERTISE OF DALE AND MIKE WERE OUTSTANDING.  THE NEW CABINETS WERE MADE IN ARTHUR, IL BY THE AMISH.  THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.  THE REMODELING STARTED WITH DAVID WHO PLANNED WHAT OUR NEW KITCHEN WOULD LOOK LIKE AND HELPED US WHEN PROBLEMS POPPED UP.  HE MADE SURE EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY.  WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE END RESULT.  LASTLY, DALE DID THAT LITTLE BIT EXTRA TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING CAME OUT PERFECT.  IT MAKES YOU WANT TO USE WOOD FRONT KITCHENS AGAIN. <br />"

"We began to prepare to lift our house in May, 2011, put in a new basement and add an addition while also gutting the entire first floor and the second floor bathroom of our 100 year old farmhouse. Sam started by repairing sill so the house could be lifted and has helped gut, move walls, build the addition, add new walls, windows, doors, a wood burning fireplace, and so much more. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Sam ended up doing the majority of the building by himself including framing in the entire basement, addition and all structural changes. We ended up replacing the sill around the entire house, insulating, residing, and rewiring everything. Sam has done almost all of the carpentry and finish work of trimming it out. He has always been prompt and pleasant to work with. He listens to what you want and works with you to accomplish things and does not get upset over the constant changes that are an inevitable part of working with an old house and finding all the "patch jobs" and mistakes of former owners or workmen. He has even built pieces entirely from scratch such as my cedar lined window seat and a clothes chute between floors from scratch with no specific plans, but just an idea from my head. He widened all of our doors and helped us to make our entire first floor and basement handicapped accessible. We replaced every door in the house, all the cabinets, reconfigured floor plans, changed floor coverings and moved windows and closets. Sam has worked very well with all the other contractors who came in to do wiring, plumbing, tiling, cabinets and landscaping. He even did the computer work to come up with floor plans when we only had my hand drawn pictures of what i wanted. We are not finished yet and he is still trimming out the final rooms and his finish work is excellent."

"Mr. Sandless was very open about the service he provided and its limitations. They arrived on time answered any and all questions that I had. They did a fantastic job refinishing our floors. The type of hardwood we had would not allow us to do a traditional refinish of the floors so the Mr. Sandless process was an excellent option. The wait time for the finish to dry was also substantially shorter that a traditional refinish. We were able to move our furniture into our house 24 hours after the job was completed.  I am very happy with the process and service that was provided and would recommend it to a friend."

"Upon completion of demo, lead carpenter discovered bathtub had drain on the wrong side. Installation of tub was next step, so another tub was ordered and arrival expected in 3 days. Meanwhile carpenter installed floor except around perimeter of tub. Carpenter did not return next day (Friday) and did not hear from anyone, so when no one showed up Monday am, called lead carpenter, went straight to voicemail. Called Curt, went straight to voicemail. Received a call about a half hour later from project manager, who apologized but said tub was still in limbo. He ultimately solved the problem the following day by locating one in East Moline, IL and driving there himself to pick it up. At that point received a call from Curt apologizing for the situation and offering to make it up to us with a gift card to a restaurant or cleaning service. The rest of the process went smoothly, carpentry, plumbing, finishes are all excellent. Final install was curtain rod and carpenter suggested we wait for one that didn't require drilling into the marble panel surround, so we asked him to order a different one and it was installed the following week. We are very pleased with the result."

"Excellent work.  Easy to work with on projects.  Has been given additional work at our home including painting, repair of cabinet hardware, drain problem, toilet repair, dry wall repair, light electrical work.  He is doing the work this week and it is going well.  Repair business is very busy, you must be patient and not need work done as time permits.  If you secure an appointment plan on him being at the meeting 15 to 30 minutes late. <br />"

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Scottville, IL

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
