"I hired Miguel Roofing to install a roof and gutters on my garage. They were quick with the estimate and were able to get me on the schedule. The team worked very hard and did a good job on the part of the job they actually finished. They never completed the installation of the gutters. I was told their machine was broken and that they would be back to finish the gutters. I have reached out multiple times and have been told they would take care of it the next day, two days later, etc. It has been multiple weeks, and I have yet to see or hear from them about the gutter installation. Additionally, they left well over 2 pounds of nails and metal debris in my yard and flower beds. I would not recommend them based on their poor business practices. Edit: After the above-mentioned original post, Miguel contacted me and made arrangements for the gutters to be placed the next day. The team showed up and completed the project. However, they tossed the old gutters behind my garage without disposing of them."

"Amor roofing was great to work with. They installed metal roofing on a covered front porch that turned out amazing. They have also made roofs repairs on different buildings that needed repair. Their attention to detail and knowledge about roofing is what makes them stand out. They make the roofing process efficient. You can be happy knowing your roof will be in good hands and installed properly."

"We first met Alex when we noticed a leak developing in our roof. We called him up and asked about a patch knowing that we would need the whole roof replaced eventually. We provided our address expecting him to come out a few days later and give an estimate. To our surprise he showed up that same night with tarps to cover our leak! He let us know he would be back out to give an estimate and showed up the next day. We had estimates from 3 different companies prior. When he provided his it was on par with the other 3 so we knew we were getting a fair deal and also just an outstanding person fixing our roof. He promptly got the permit needed for our manufactured home then found the least questionable overcast days to come out and replace the roof so we did not have to worry about any more leaks. The quality of work was spectacular. I would recommend Alex not only for the quality of work but also his responsiveness and his genuinely incredible personality."

"Great! Seriously! The other companies either didn’t have time to repair any roofing except the ones they originally installed or they want an ungodly amount of money for it. Omar’s Roofing Company saved me time and money (a very substantial amount of money!). In 2 or 3 business days from our first contact with them they had it repaired and completed. Seriously people, if you have roofing issues get a hold of the guys, they’re great ?"

"They did a very good job, I got them from Home Advisors, they did a great job, it was a challenging job, but they were able to accomplish it on time and as per the quotation they provided. They were pleasant to deal with."

"We used New Floors USA to replace flooring in our entire house. Tom was our sales rep and was very knowledgeable, offered great suggestions, did not pressure-sell us and even offered cost saving advice. Additionally, we had many delays to due contractor issues and New Floors USA worked with us to install in stages to accommodate delays and changes. My flooring is beautiful and I continue to get compliments. I am very pleased with our decision to use this company!!!"

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Sedro Woolley, WA

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
