"The cabinets and countertops are beautiful and match sample materials perfectly. Dave Warren and whole team were great. Dave did a great job helping me with the cabinet design, making sure measurements were accurate, and creatively dealing with some existing kitchen layout challenges. I highly recommend him and Kitchen Concepts!"

"Matt had done a great job on my kitchen remodel last year, so when I had an unexpected plumbing failure and major flooding on my lower level that included the master bedroom, office, and the only full bath I called Matt right away. He was at the door before the flood mitigation crew was done clearing out my belongings, and was able to fit the key components of this job into his schedule, working evenings and weekends to get my house livable as soon as possible. While the basement took nearly a week to dry with industrial fans, etc. Matt and I met to choose materials and make decisions on changes I wanted to make. The bottom 10" of all the drywall had been cut away, all hardwood flooring and the bathroom vinyl flooring torn up. I took this opportunity to make some changes such as moving the vanity further away from the toilet, changing from a long double-sink to a smaller single vanity, and closing in an extra door so I had more wall space. As with my kitchen remodel, Matt offered advice on materials, and finishes, but let me take the lead in how I wanted my project to look. He always finds the right balance between sharing his experience and advice without being bossy or taking over my decisions. He was great on working with the specific requirements of my insurance company, and kept me well within the budget of my insurance payout even with the changes and considerable upgrades (tile floor, tub surround, moving the plumbing, etc) The sealing and repair work on the foundation was outside of the scope of the insured damage but was discovered when the walls where cut out. Even with that extra work, my total cost was minimal because the covered repairs had stayed well under budget. In the bedrooms the extensive drywall repair -- replacing the bottom 10 inches that had been removed, the removal of the old wainscoting, and the filling in a door -- are all completely invisible. Matt's team who worked on roughing in, and on the plaster and some finishing work were reliable, courteous, and did all they could to minimize the disruption on this weeks-long project. Every single day Matt showed up -- sometimes doing work and sometimes just checking in on his team. But he was on site every day. I especially like that he treats his team respectfully and mentors them. I have more projects in mind for my house and will definitely call on Matt again. I've given his name to several friends. Note: The hardwood floors were replaced by a different contractor who had done the floors originally, but Matt did do the tile floor in the bathroom.

"We had a good experience with Alex Freddi a few years ago for a bathroom remodel, so we hired him again for our recent kitchen remodel. Project manager Gary had every subcontractor scheduled perfectly, everyone did a wonderful job, the jobsite was kept clean and we are very happy with the results. We would definitely recommend this company."

"Lo's did a wonderful job on our recent home repairs and remodeling work. Amadou and his crew were a pleasure to work with-- friendly, considerate, on time, fast. Amadou takes time to talk with you about the job to make you feel comfortable about the plans. The work was better than we could have ever imagined, and we had such a positive experience that we decided to re-hire them immediately to paint the exterior of our house."

Customers say: True professional

"The first job that John did for me was a shower remodel. Old fiberglass shower was replaced with tiled one, also new tile floor and a new toilet. It's bigger now and looks gorgeous! It was done on time, as scheduled and at reasonable price. When my old deck needed repair, I called John again. His crew replaced all damaged wood and now my old deck looks like new! John and his crew are easy to work with, polite, clean everything after the work is done. I would definitely recommend and hire again."

Small jobs welcome

"Looking for a contractor for your remodeling job? We give John Wood five stars. We hired John Wood of JAW Construction to transform a building shell originally intended to be a shop for building trusses into a small house (officially an auxiliary dwelling unit or ADU) and are thrilled we found him. The job required skills that extended beyond new construction to include the insight, skill and craftsmanship of a highly experienced remodeling expert. He possessed these in spades. Beyond his own expertise, he has assembled a set of sub-contractors that are excellent craftsmen in their own areas of expertise. The job was doubly challenging given that for much of the construction period we were out of state getting our old home ready for sale. This also meant that an extra element of trust was involved. John sent us pictures of the progress, so that we could monitor from a distance. In addition, he was able to identify and rectify several flaws in our design. As with any large construction/remodeling project, there were some unexpected expenses that came up, but John worked with us to help limit cost overruns, sometimes foregoing profits. He was also always up front about the costs of the various components. Our new home is gorgeous and reflects his sharp eye for detail. We couldn’t be happier. In short, if you want a highly skilled, trustworthy, hardworking contractor for your large (or small) job, we highly recommend John Wood of JAW Construction."

"As a landlord, timing and budget are everything. George was able to do a quick kitchen remodel in one of rental units, and I got it back on the market and rented fast. He installed new laminate countertops, vinyl plank flooring, new dishwasher, sink and disposal. He was professional, showed up on time and got the job done as promised."

"Ziebart Construction did a good job on our kitchen remodel and new floors. The process was fast, organized, and everything looks beautiful. They weren’t the cheapest quote, but we liked Matt and we felt comfortable him. There were some issues with communication on both sides. With the remodel, we weren’t happy with the layout of the semi-custom cabinets. The CAD drawings were 2-D so we couldn’t “see” how the cabs would look installed. The virtual tour would have helped, but we had to pay extra to replace & modify some cabinets. We ended up paying about the same price as full custom cabinets (+ $1000.00 more). The quality of all the cabinets were very good. To be fair, Matt was being careful as the virtual tour would have put us over budget as his quote was already at our max. He let us go over budget later when we asked with reasonable terms so we could get the fixes & extras done. For the consumer: Buy the $500 virtual tour if you’re getting new cabinets. Make sure you're prepared before each meeting. Study the contracts and be clear about what you want & what you think you’re getting before you sign it. Do this via email before Matt comes over, he won’t have time to make changes onsite. We did LOTS of extra demo, prep, cleanup, purchases, & design decisions hoping to reduce the cost of the project. In the end, the price was the same as quoted which was disappointing but it does look beautiful. Keep an eye on the work as you go. The trades people are busy too and they don’t read minds. If you don’t like something; talk to Matt or Rick and they’ll fix it. *Note: When the final bill came in, the project did cost less than my math said it should be. I suspect that Matt may have reduced the remaining bill for the fixes/add-ons a little to fit my max monthly payment ability we talked about earlier. I think this speaks to the character of who he is and that’s another reason why we’ll use & recommend Ziebart Construction again despite the hiccups."

FAQs for kitchen remodel projects in Sherwood, OR

Your galley kitchen needs adequate clearance around any island installation to maintain functionality. Most galley kitchens lack sufficient width for traditional islands, as these layouts prioritize efficiency in smaller spaces.

If your kitchen has an unusual width, consult with a kitchen designer who can evaluate your specific dimensions and recommend appropriate solutions. For narrower spaces, consider alternatives like rolling carts or narrow work tables that provide additional surface area without permanently restricting movement.

Kitchen remodels require six to 10 weeks for completion, though timelines vary based on project scope and material availability. Simple updates like cabinet refinishing and countertop replacement might finish within a few weeks, while comprehensive renovations involving structural changes often extend beyond two months.

Planning stages add approximately four weeks before construction begins. Maintaining clear communication with your contractor and ordering materials early helps prevent unnecessary delays.

Common errors include insufficient clearance between opposing countertops, inadequate lighting that creates shadowy work areas, and poor storage planning that leaves countertops cluttered. Some homeowners select oversized appliances that overwhelm the space or invest in expensive features that don't address fundamental workflow issues.

Careful planning, accurate measurements, and consultation with experienced professionals help avoid these pitfalls and ensure your renovation successfully addresses your kitchen's specific challenges.

Whether expansion makes sense depends on your home's layout, your budget, and your long-term plans. Combining a galley kitchen with neighboring spaces creates more open, flexible layouts that many buyers prefer. However, removing walls involves substantial costs, particularly if they contain plumbing, electrical systems, or structural elements.

Sometimes, optimizing your existing galley layout through better storage solutions and lighting proves more cost-effective than expansion. Consult with a contractor to evaluate specific costs for your situation.

Effective galley kitchen lighting combines multiple sources to eliminate shadows and create visual spaciousness. Overhead fixtures provide general illumination, while under-cabinet lighting illuminates work surfaces directly. Consider recessed ceiling fixtures that don't protrude into limited headspace.

Lighting with dimming capabilities allows adjustment for different activities. Reflective surfaces like glass tile backsplashes or glossy cabinet finishes help bounce light throughout the space, reducing the corridor effect common in galley layouts.
