"Office was very responsive, friendly, & professional in setting up the appointment. A team of two workers showed up on time, explained the task and how they'd perform it, and then set about doing it. They recommended additional work, explaining it clearly; I deferred on the additional work for now as I'm not sure it's absolutely necessary to perform it. My only complaint is that there was a permit fee that was charged for performing the work in the City of Chicago. In fairness, I was told of the fee when I booked the company's services, but if A+ Router works routinely in the City, I now question why this fee is the homeowner's responsiblity."

"I purchased an "Angie's Big Deal" to have three small jobs done at my home. I needed a toilet put in place in my powder room, a faucet changed in my kitchen, and a water filter installed in the kitchen. These three projects took longer than expected and I ended up paying for additional labor time. The installer encountered a few problems installing the water filtration system and had to come back out to correct them. Phone calls were returned promptly and follow-up before, during, and after the projects were completed was good."

"The project turned out great! Progressive Restoration was awesome to work with. They were decisive, efficient, and skilled. Marc was super responsive, and the pricing for the job was more than fair. They will be our 1st call for any future carpentry work that comes up at our house. Highly recommend!"

"Mark was punctual, and very attentive to the job. He was very knowledgeable of the old plumbing in our house that was built in the 1920s. After what he said was a struggle to get the old piping removed the new pipes went in smoothly. He was done with the job in a couple of hours. I would highly recommend him for the odd job or his specialty of carpentry!"

"Having a leak in our house/main floor - we have been working to get people out to the house for a couple months.  Everyone either could not find the leak or tried to sell us from a new roof to new siding - along with trying to work through insurance thinking to get the sale they can get a claim filed.  Chris came out - and the minute he saw the roof said there is no need for a new roof.  There are places of poor workmanship by previous owner when the roof was put on - that clearly opened up issues for leaks.  We are now on the list for the repair work and Chris's professionalism gets him any work we will need in the future.  We went from literally in the $40,000 range of work needed to under $3,000.  Couldn't ask for more honesty, and my faith in humanity is restored because of this....

"I will be moving in a few weeks and have a large item in my home that needed to be moved to my garage by local movers for eventual moving by the interstate movers. To get it out of the house, the exterior door had to be removed. Not a problem; what's the big deal? Well in my case, it was a problem. Some years ago, I had security doors installed on my home that weigh well over 200 pounds. I called the original remodeling contractor who installed them but he never returned my calls and was obviously not interested. I was at a loss with my scheduled move date approaching when a friend suggested calling a handyman service. I looked up Handyman Matters since they had the best ratings and emailed them about my dilemma. Linda quickly answered my email and said they could definitely help and do the job. Another complication was coordinating the door removal, replacement and the movers, since I didn't want the door off for weeks. Linda said it wouldn't be a problem and we worked out a schedule where the door would be removed one day, the movers came the next day and the door would be replaced the third day. I was relieved to have a solution but still worrying about it. On the first day, Daniel and Jim came to the house and removed the door and even covered it with plastic in case it rained. The day after the movers, Daniel and Jim returned to put the door back. They did such a great job, one can't even tell the door and surrounding trim had been removed. Moving is stressful enough, but getting this taken care of so smoothly was a big relief - all thanks to Handyman Matters!"

"The first company that was assigned by Choice Home Warranty did not show show or call for the scheduled appointment. I was told to contact the company, but I was not satisfied with the response and the new appointment. After complaining to Choice Home Warranty, they paired me with another company (HT Handy Works LLC). My plumbing issue was not covered under the warranty, but the company was able to resolve my problem, although it was costly."

"Having worked with Josh for the first time on a painting project in our new home, about a month ago... I decided to give him a shot at quoting and ultimately winning the bid for our fence. He had already proved his trustworthy ethics and willingness to keep customers satisfied. He was willing to start by digging the holes on a Saturday (never heard of a contractor working on the weekend), so that he could get out ahead of the impeding rain for the week. He made sure the holes were dig right with a two man auger and spared no expense on the concrete to set the posts (since we will be in the home for years to come).
Although the job did take a couple days longer than expected, this was in no way shape or form Josh's fault, as we had torrential downpours for two days and he had the decency to ask if it was ok not to work in the rain since not only was it dangerous, all of the trampling would ruin my grass.
He promised me that the job would be completed by Friday, and even pulled an extra person off of another job of his to make sure the man power was there to get the job done and done right.
The fence turned out absolutely great, and I couldn't be happier! The only problem is.. I cant seem to find enough work around the house to keep having him help! As stated in a review last month, Josh represents the new generation of contractors, one with honestly, loyalty, great prices and quality craftsmanship... a true asset."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Shirland, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
