"Mike and his team were great to work with! Mike and his designer worked well together to make sure everything went together well and would still go well with existing tile and vanity. The install crew was friendly and courteous, always willing to ask questions and adjust things to make sure everything was exactly as I wanted it. They cleaned up every day and made sure things were tidy when they left."

"Had a 26 year old hot water heater that did not leak, but was proactive to obtaining a quote for replacement. I contacted Birch Plumbing based on reviews of other Angie List customers and they quoted a fixed price of $850.00 for a 40 gallon natural gas Bradford white unit. I did ask them on the phone if there could be other charges above that and they stated at times they may need to replace the vent pipe from the old furnace. Typically not over $40.00 charge. I authorized a service call for that Friday and they arrived on time and very professional. Once they saw my unit, I needed to have " tall boy" unit that would cost $40.00 more. Fair price. So they completed the removal and installation of new hot water heater in less than 2 hours for a total price of $890.00. Did not have to replace the vent pipe. One year warranty on parts and labor with a 6 year warranty on tank. Excellent job!!"

"Within a week of calling, Steven came out and assessed the bathroom. Offered suggestions and recommendations and gave us a couple options. A week later, we came into the showroom, saw the drawings, saw some possibilities that never occurred to us, and picked out samples from his extensive collection to take home. His quote was reasonable. He is very detail-oriented and organized. The schedule he made was followed exactly. The guys were great—friendly, efficient and kept the mess to a minimum. It only took two weeks to rip out and install a beautiful, transformed bathroom which we are enjoying very much. SO glad we had them do it! The whole experience was so smooth and not too stressful."

"I had arranged with a different company to have new kitchen appliances delivered and installed. When the delivery/installer arrived with the new appliances, they informed me that they would be unable to install the dishwasher and oven because the existing plumbing was inadequate (despite me having confirmed with the installer prior to delivery that the plumbing would not be an issue). I told them to just leave the dishwasher and oven and that I would hire someone else to address the plumbing. We had company coming the next day, so I knew I had to try and quickly get a plumber over to my house in order to set up the plumbing so that I could finish the installation of the dishwasher and oven. The Pearson representative that took my call worked hard to find a serviceman in my area who could fit me in between his existing jobs that day. Later that afternoon, the Pearson plumber arrived, performed the work requested quickly and professionally, and I was then able to finish installing the dishwasher and oven. Pearson’s extra efforts to fit me into their busy schedule the same afternoon that I called, despite not really having to, was much appreciated and, most importantly, their work has held up wonderfully with no issues."

"Excellent. Bob was very reliable, skilled, and attentive to detail and a very pleasant man. I selected and purchased the floor tile, vanity, sink, light fixture, and bathroom fixtures and he installed everything flawlessly. He even disposed of the old stuff. He bought the paint and painted the walls and ceiling. I was very happy with the outcome."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Shirland, IL

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
