"While researching radon mitigation companies Rich was always on point in calling me back and sending email. This is what was the deciding factor in choosing which company we picked. I also called Rich back after we found out the exterior foundation had lead paint. He said they would take precautions to contain the dust from drilling the concrete. The other prospective companies had no idea on how to deal with this scenario and never called back when they said they would. The workers showed up a half hour early which was great and finished in 2 hours. The workers were very professional and cleaned up like they were never there. I asked if they could put it a certain location that was more convenient for us. No questions asked and they agreed that it would be a good spot. They caulked all piping in the basement so the system could be more effective in mitigating the radon. After installation they went over the system and answered any questions that I had. They guarantee the system and to get the levels below 4. The price was reasonable compared to other quotes. I would highly recommend them no questions asked."

"They did a really good job. We got the results back from post remediation and they were below 4 picos per liter. It was a very good experience. They're very easy to work with, show up on time, got the work done, got the radon level down to where it needs to be."

"The home we are purchasing is in another state, we were not able to be there for the inspection. Our inspector was Vincent, we were sent a VERY detailed report with pictures the next day. The inspection included Radon testing and wood destroying insect inspection since we'll be moving to PA. We are very pleased on the timeliness and the recommendations given in the report. We would definitely recommend this company!!!!"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Other inspectors in my area didn't offer Radon and Mold.  Instead of having to hire two inspectors to get all the tests I wanted, I was able to get everything in one stop.  Dan was very thorough, explained everything in detail and was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the inspection.  He pointed out issues that could have snuck up on us in the future and cost us thousands.  He pointed out local regulation violations as well as state violations so that we knew what was priority in fixing.  He was open, honest and offered tips on replacing/repairing certain items.  <br /> He tested the septic and pointed out that after 60 gallons of water he was seeing the dye.  He explained that normally a good septic system wouldn't see dye until after 300 gallons.  He tore apart the spring house in order to look at all areas of the water running through it.  He pointed out areas of concern and what to watch for in the future, but explained that it won't be an issue.  He pointed out that the roof needed replaced and explained in detail what to look for as far as the shingles curling.  He also pointed out that the OSB under the roof was in perfect condition.  He cautioned us that some contractor may tell us we need to replace the board as well and showed my husband in detail that this was not the case, we only needed to put new shingles up.  He pointed out leaks in the propane lines, water lines, and minor electrical issues that needed repaired.  He explained what the code was and why everything needed repaired or replaced.  He also added what level of priority was and that some things could wait and others could not. <br /> He was very thorough and complete.  My husband was very impressed and said he was very pleasant to work with. <br />"

"After initiating my first home-buying process, which can be hectic and nerve-racking, my realtor contacted Precision Home Inspections, Inc to perform a home inspection. I was blissfully unaware of all this that was going on behind the scenes, so when Precision Home Inspections, Inc contacted me to schedule a time that worked for me, I was relieved it was one less thing I had to do on my own. Upon my arrival, Dan Jones was outside waiting for me. We walked all around the house to start. He thoroughly explained any issues he saw and talked me through why they could be problems. After getting inside the house and looking everything else over, we talked everything over again, highlighting the issues he saw - ensuring me that everything he was explaining was going to be documented and sent to me. With the inspection occurring on Sunday, I was extremely pleased to find the report in my mail very soon after (I think it was Tuesday). I called my realtor right away to ask if he needed a copy - and again, to my pleasant surprise, a copy had already been sent to him as well. <br /> All in all, as a first time home buyer, Precision Home Inspections, Inc made the inspection process one of the easiest and most stress free aspects of my entire experience. <br />"

"Luke, the inspector, met us at the property at the scheduled time and gave us a brief overview of the inspection process and asked if we had any specific concerns we wanted him to check and then asked us to use the bathrooms, kitchen facilities, etc. as if we were living in the home. While we were going through the various rooms, Luke setup the radon testing equipment in the basement. We had numerous discussions during the inspection and Luke was very responsive and very professional in his actions.town <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Somerset, PA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
