"Jim was very receptive to our timeframe, and even worked around me being out of town when it was time for the job! He and his crew were very communicative, and treated my elderly and disabled parent with respect and care. We had a panel upgrade to replace the dangerous Federal Pacific panel that came with the house, and are now up to code (plus some)! I'd recommend Jim and his team to anyone looking for intelligent, diligent, and understanding leadership in a local company."

"Pros. Very professional and knowledgeable. Told me more about my electrical panel than any of the other 4 estimates I recieved. Cons. Told me the panel was at end of life. Panel is 22 years old. Life of panel is 25 to 40 years old. Breakers degrade over time( heat up, trip, overloaded) none of which i have. When panel installed there was NO leds and very few people knew about energy star ratings. All of my appliances in the house are high in energy efficiency. My base load was rates at 142 amps on 200 amp service well below the 20 percent threshold. These guys were by far the most expensive,"

Customers say: True professional

"Travis came to look at the problem on a Tuesday morning. When I explained to him that lights in the house were flickering he became concerned and put my job on the top of his list. Once he arrived he immediately diagnosed the problem as many of the circuits in the box had deteriorated due to moisture in the line. He fixed the bad circuit in question and showed me the problem and explained that due to the age, oxidation, and rust that I may have future issues with the remaining circuits. I decided to replace the entire circuit panel and circuits as well as have a new meter with new wiring and drip lines installed on the exterior of the house, as the old meter was also corroded and detaching from the siding.. Travis returned early the following day at the exact hour we had agreed upon and worked a full eight hours to complete the entire job. His work is exemplary: very neat and methodical and whenever I had a question he would answer it in detail. His work was completed within the 2 days and came to approximately 10 hours in total. He supplied all the necessary materials and had everything he needed on hand in his truck.. I recommend him very highly as a skilled and experienced electrician located in Berkshire County."

"I couldn’t be happier with the service I received. The original scope of work was to replace an old electrical panel and install new lighting in the basement of our family cabin, and the electrician exceeded my expectations in every way. In addition to completing the contracted work, they did an excellent job troubleshooting and resolving several unexpected wiring issues. The project was especially challenging because all of the materials had to be carried up more than sixty stairs and across uneven terrain, but they handled the difficult conditions with exceptional professionalism, skill, and a positive attitude. Communication throughout the project was outstanding. The electrician kept me informed of any challenges and discussed potential changes before moving forward, so there were never any surprises. Their professionalism, honesty, and attention to detail gave me complete confidence that the job was being done right. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the work."

"I recently had recessed lights installed in my living room by Clyde and I couldn’t be happier with the results. He was professional, and experienced. He helped me choose the right layout for even lighting and explained the process every step of the way. The installation was clean and lights look amazing. He also took the time to make sure everything was working perfectly and even adjusted the dimmers to my preference. Overall, excellent workmanship and attention to detail. I highly recommend Clyde to anyone looking to add recessed lighting or any electrical work done right the first time!"

"Larry was great. He managed to troubleshoot an ongoing issue in our basement, and fixed some outdoor lighting problems -- which turned out to be related to the basement's electrical issues. I'd absolutely hire DC Electric for any work I may need in the future."

"If you are looking for an electrician, look no more. It may take a few phone calls, but these guys are the best! I recently contacted Paciorek Electric about a large amount on electrical work/repairs not done to code by a previous homeowner which have created safety issues in my house. Tim Paciorek was clear about what to expect in terms of cost and service. Their personnel showed up on time, were respectful, went over everything I had on my list and clearly communicate everything they were doing and/or needed o be done in the house. They spent 2 days at my house and I am planning to have them do some more work. I am completely satisfied with their service. I cannot imagine a more efficient and confident team of electricians."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Springfield, MA

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
