"He was very good. His prices were quite reasonable. He was punctual and professional. His reports were very detailed, and included pictures of everything, with little arrows on it. He did radon testing, and was very good about follow-up.  He was there for about 4 hours total.  It was much more than I expected.  I could not have been happier with him, and I just can't say enough good things about this gentleman. I would highly recommend him to anybody."

"We booked Joe online for our first inspection in October 2014.  I was impressed with the ease of scheduling-- I just found an open date and time that worked for us, selected it on his online calendar, and Joe arrived promptly.  He called in advance to let me know he was on his way and to give us an ETA.  He was incredibly professional, very polite, and more thorough than I could have imagined.  I'm a first-time home buyer, and when I told him that, he took the time to explain everything I might ever need to know about how to be a good caretaker to my home and everything inside of it.  That alone was a valuable experience.  Joe was not afraid to walk the roof or crawl under a porch to get a full view and a better photo for the report.  He was fantastic.  The first inspection was about 4+ hours for a small colonial home in Maplewood.  My real estate agent, who has been in the business for 29 years, said she had never seen someone so thorough and detail oriented.  Joe's report was very lengthy, full of photos, and brought to our attention a number of safety concerns that we never would have guessed were present in the home.  That home contract fell through anyhow, so we initiated a search for another house with fewer death traps.  <br /> We found a second home in December and obviously booked Joe again.  This house was in much better shape, but Joe identified problems that I couldn't imagine another inspector would have found.  And when he wanted to examine a part of our roof that was too steep to walk, Joe found his way to the steeple of the church at the end of the street, and he took another look with a set of binoculars.  Anyhow, the sellers of this agreed to make the requested repairs, and their contractor remarked about how thorough Joe must have been to have identified some structural problems underneath the porch.  When we talked to the sellers in person, they joked about the graphic novel Joe provided of their home (note: Joe emails you the report after 3 or 4 days; he also emails you the radon results, which come from the lab a few days after that).   <br /> In addition to a very thorough report, Joe also provides you with a home inspection binder that has some great information about houses, generally, and how to maintain all of the appliances and keep the structure in good condition.  It's great reference material for anyone, especially new owners.    <br /> I hope not to need another home inspection for a very long time, but should the situation arise, I'll be calling Joe.  I will also recommend him thoroughly to anyone seeking a home inspection recommendation. <br />"

"Phil was great. The house was relatively new, around 22 years. We walked through and he did a good job explaining everything, and I felt he was thorough. We had purchased another house previously (Ridge Home Inspection, now retired), and I felt in comparison that his work and his report was more thorough. I regret a few things from our prior inspector, for example a horizontal hairline crack in the foundation that he noticed and commented on, but did not document. Doing so would have been helpful in documenting that the crack had not changed. I also felt our prior inspector did not spend as much time digging into issues. With Phil I left feeling more confident in the thoroughness, and his report covered all of the issues that were identified, with a good number of pictures. He also got the written report to me same day. He does skew on the side of caution (assume it's a problem unless proven otherwise / specialist investigates), which is also what you want as a buyer."

"After a home inspection I was told that I needed to <br /> remediate a ?black substance? aka mold from the roof of my attic crawl space. <br /> The black stain covered most of the plywood and some rafters. I was told it was <br /> probably due to poor ventilation. <br /> I had less than two months to remediate before closing. This <br /> was a first for me so knowing where to begin and who to call was the most <br /> difficult decision to make. Not many people talk about mold in their home so <br /> finding a contractor was going to be a challenge. <br /> I went right to Angieslist and started looking and I came <br /> across Enzyme Life Sciences. I read the many reviews and saw pictures from one <br /> customer who had the same issue I had. There were before and after pictures of <br /> the job performed. I thought if my roof sheathing could look like that I would be happy. <br /> So I called and talked to Mike Partlow who understood my problem and he talked <br /> me through three part process of cleaning the mold and removing the stain. Mike <br /> is out in Albany but has trained contractors throughout the NYS region so being <br /> in Buffalo was not an issue. I talked with a few other contractors and some <br /> were either booked for the next few months or were on vacation ? (during <br /> December). Ultimately, I decided to go with Enzymes Life Sciences and I?m so <br /> glad I did. Within a week, Mike sent out a gentleman named Scott who cleansed <br /> the mold from the attic. The attic looked clean as promised. Mike also gives a <br /> 5 year warranty that is transferrable to the new owners which was very <br /> advantageous when adding it to the amended home contract with the buyers. <br /> Mike also stuck with me after the job checking in with me to make <br /> sure the sale was going through with the cleansing completed. That's one other thing <br /> to look for when shopping for a contractor; Mike is there for you and stands behind his work. <br /> Finally, the house closed on schedule within a few days of the final inspection. <br /> I can?t say enough about Enzyme Life Sciences, if you need to get rid of any <br /> mold in your home Mike is your guy. <br />"

"John did a full inspection of the condo unit and produced a 16-page, highly detailed report. Ninety percent of the information in the report was something that I would have never thought to ask. I took his recommendations for repairs and submitted them to the seller with a request to fix the problems. John was very professional and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend his services."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Stanhope, NJ

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
