"They showed up, said they were doing a local job and had pavement left. They first said 2 triaxle's. They kept adding loads and I was fine with that, seemed they were doing a good job. They ended up telling me they had 3 1/2 loads and showed me what they'd do with it and I accepted. They aid any left over would be put in an area we had not planned to do. They did cover the area they said they would but only but ended up using only 3 loads. I asked about the other 1/2 load and they said the plant probably put it on one of the trucks that came. They. would be around 12 ton overloaded. I liked the work they did but I do not like being lied to. If you tell me 3 1/2 triaxles bring 3 1/2 loads. That would be my only complaint. "

"Wonderfully done work from very stand up guys. The crew is personable and works quickly. Everything that was needed was done and comes at a good cost. We are very happy with the results and would recommend anyone needing any excavation work to go with Brian. All piping looks great, and they did a lot of work in the time that they were here."

"Don’t use Tate Paving. I had 36 feet of my driveway replaced. 15 years ago the entire driveway, 82 feet, was removed and replaced in one day. Tate wanted to turn it into a one week job. The first time they called to inform me when the work would be done they told me one Monday 36 feet of the driveway would be removed and a week later the new asphalt would be put down. I told them no way. This was a one day job but that Tate could take two. Tate call almost a month later and promised the work would be started on Monday and finished on Tuesday assume no rain. I told them if there was rain that the work must be completed the first rainless day. The secretary told me she would check with the supervisor and get back to me but never did so I assume we were on the same page. They showed up as promised on Monday and on Tuesday put down a thin coat of asphalt and left when it started to rain. The rain lasted 10 minutes. On Wednesday they called and said they would be back in a week"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in State College, PA

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
