"Working with BRT on our home inspection and radon test was incredibly easy and very competitively priced. Dave was very easy to get a hold of and was able to schedule us quickly. He is very knowledgeable about homes and construction in general. He not only showed me certain issues with the house but also explained which items I could fix myself and where to buy the parts. He differentiated the items that couldn't be "DIY-ed" and offered to provide (didn't push) contacts for these items. The best value with BRT is the fact that they can couple a radon test with their home inspection. Most home inspectors sub-contract their radon tests with different companies. This not only adds time to your inspection (cutting into your inspection review period) but also costs a lot more money (I quoted 5 different home inspectors and BRT was the most competitive). To top it all off, Dave is a personable guy who is very easy to get along with and has plenty of experiences to share. I would highly recommend Dave and BRT to anyone getting a home inspection (especially if you're getting a radon test too)."

"Inspection was done professionally, and he did a thorough job, I was provided a detailed report afterwards. I wasn't going to do a Radon test, but glad I did - the reading was a 16. After mitigation, level came down to 1.5"

"Antone was very responsive to all my questions as I had a lot to learn. Other neighbors had used this same company and were pleased with their results. Two guys were in the house for 5 hours. Answered all my questions, were polite, professional, knowledgeable. Prior tests I had done with different detectors showed 5.0-8.0 readings in basement near sump pump. Bought a new detector at time of installation. Current reading (2 weeks of data) shows 0.3 pic/liter. Pretty amazing difference, and peace of mind."

"Ron was very responsive and was able to get the equipment delivered and installed with short notice. He engaged us in some conversation and clearly loves what he does. His associate returned 48 hours later to retrieve the machines and Ron called us the following day for payment and to provide the results. Our home tested in the 4-6 picocurie range which is above the action level of 4. Ron emailed detail results which showed the measurement by hour and by location, information about radon, and information about remediation (including referrals to local providers). He also included information regarding the legal aspects of radon as it relates to testers and remediators. Definitely recommended. This guy lives to do radon testing!"

"My fiancé and I needed a home inspection and Radon testing for two houses. We are first time buyers so Mike was very thorough on the inspection and took the time out to teach us everything to look for. The pricing was expensive compared to other providers, but I thought he was worth it. We ended up going with a different house and he dropped the price for a repeat customer"

"I scheduled online and was assigned to have Dedric as my inspector. My husband arrived to the appointment first and met with Dedric. When I called him to check in, he was able to provide me with step by step details regarding where Dedric was, what he was looking at, and some of the areas he had already called out. When I arrived, Dedric introduced himself and explained where he was in the process. He was so very thorough and was able to give me step by step details about everything. He would also directly show me what I was looking at and not utilize terminology that I was unfamiliar with. I knew exactly what was going on and what to look forward to. I was emailed my report less than 24 hours after the inspection and it was 88 pages long. Every single detail, down to chipped paint, was notated and detailed. Dedric did a fabulous job and I would highly recommend him and At Home Inspections."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Sugar Grove, IL

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
