"

it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related.

I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.

Really highly recommend them!

"Rodney Whitehouse and his team at Cardinal Home Inspections are very professional and knowledgeable. We've recommended him to friends and family members that have all had the same outstanding experience with him. Rodney will take the time to explain his finding to you and is even available by phone later if you have questions. Because we had contractors come in and address several of his findings we called Rodney several times with additional questions, to make sure that we were addressing the right things in the right way and he was available and helpful everytime."

"I thought that they did a good job. It took a little longer than I thought it would, but we have a Mansard roof with a lot of sharp steep angles and I'm sure that was a pain. They had to remove the old roof to put on the new one and then they had to work around our gutters, but they were very professional and cleaned up when they were done. I only had one issue and I felt bad because I knew it was an accident. They tried to help me out by moving my grill, but when they moved it they picked it up and bent the sides. They did say that they were sorry and I said I'm not going to charge a worker any of the workers for it, but otherwise they did a good job and showed up on time and came when they said they would and left when they said they would. We haven't had any issues so far, but it's too soon to tell and the real test will be the next monsoon rain we get. Part of the reason I did choose them was because they weren't the lowest price, but they were a more established company. I ended up contacting them. I think at the time they were getting slammed because everybody wanted to get it done before the holidays or during the good weather time and also November's like the number one month to get a roof."

"Met the inspector at the residence we were considering. The inspector showed up on time and was very professional. Very polite and informative as to what he intended to do and was willing to answer questions during the process.
The report was available to us the same day and was very easy to understand.
We would highly recommend ACE Preferred Inspections to anyone in the Charleston/Summerville area.

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Summerville, SC

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
