"I initially hired Mr.Handyman to investigate and fix a leak around my window. They told me on the phone based on the photos I provided that the estimate for the job will be about $775 to find and fix the source of the leak and replace the drywall. I believe they use predatory and deceitful practices to inflate the final pricing, as it ended up being far higher than original estimates. When their handyman showed up, the estimate changed to $1010. I was never verbally informed that any of these estimates did not include materials. After removing the drywall, the handyman never found the source of the leak. I had to drive out to the property to find and fix it myself. I then called the handyman to re-install the drywall after the issue was fixed. I was then given another invoice for $977, so now we are at a total $1433, of which they claim $371 is materials. They never found or fixed the actual issue as promised but still charged for the full job. I thought we were being overcharged, since the original estimate was for finding and fixing the actual source of the leak, which they never did. When I questioned the materials charge and asked for receipts, their manager told me he would not send me any receipts even though they have them in the system because "its not their protocol" and that they put an upcharge on materials. When I questioned how much % the upcharge is, or if they can provide actual pricing of the materials, he said “when you buy at Publix, you don't ask them how much they upcharge for your food". This makes no sense, as at the store I see the price before I buy something, so I can decide if I want to buy it. Mr.Handyman never provided me with pricing of materials upfront, they just sent me one final price at the end without a breakdown of materials purchased, which they can make up to be anything. This is highly unethical. If this is a cost-plus contract, they should be providing receipts."

"I contacted Superior Pools and talked to a receptionist and asked for a quotation on a pool for a home I am building in Bonita National Golf and Country Club. A few hours later the owner of the company, Michael, called me. He must have been upset with his day because he was very abrupt. He told me that they did 34 out of 35 pools in Bonita National. He asked the model of house I was building so I shared that with him. I told him I wanted to get a quotation and he got very abrupt and said all pools were $82,000 to $ 85,000 dollars. I asked about the size of the pool and he said" it doesn't matter that is the price." A friend of mine is building a house on the street over from me and he is having Superior put in the pool and he is paying $ 65,000. I could tell from the tone of his voice he did not want the conversation to continue so I said Thank you and hung up the phone."
