"We were very happy with the driveway removal and repair. David and his assistant were professional, on time, did exactly what was agreed to, and the price was fair. We would definitely hire Bruner's Concrete Construction in the future."

"I hired Peace Construction to pour the foundation for my new driveway. The guys with Peace Construction were highly dependable, provided quality work and the price was unbeatable. The owner was very knowledgeable and kept me informed every step of the way. My neighbor admired the work and inquired about this company’s contact information. I would definitely hire them again!"

"My name is Toby I am a financial consultant and selected Stokes Concrete and design out of 4 other companies. Stokes was not the most expensive or least expensive. I like quality and humble people and with Stokes you get an abundance of both. Even though it was a very cold the day we poured Stokes and company worked diligently the entire day making sure my floor was right. I want Stokes Concrete to know to not change a thing and I am looking forward to our next project. I know I can expect top quality. Thanks"

"Joe did a fantastic job and was professional throughout. I first spoke with him on a Monday afternoon to get an estimate. By Wednesday, he had already torn out the old driveway and walkway, and by Thursday the concrete was poured. We were able to use the driveway again on Monday, less than a week after I'd first contacted him. The concrete looks great, and several friends have expressed interest. Even a tree-trimmer in the area stopped by to ask about the work so that he could contact Joe. The price quoted was exactly on target with other quotes I'd gotten, but those other contractors either had bad BBB reviews or did not show up in the Licensing, Labor, & Regulation database. Joe is licensed, had excellent reviews, and now I concur--I would highly recommend him.

"Powells concrete came out and removed our old driveway and put in a new one and poured a pad in the back for a large shed. Mr. Powells guys came out and did a phenomenal job. It was done quickly and efficiently! I couldn’t have asked for a better crew. I will definitely be using them for all my future concrete, and I highly recommend these guys at Powells concrete!!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Swansea, SC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
