"NextWave was a very professional company from start to finish. Everything went smoothly, from calling their main number to set up a quote, to discussing the pricing, and most importantly to the finished product they delivered. Expectations were exceeded, something that is seemingly rare these days. I would use them again for future projects."

"David Downs was outstanding. He offered both cost effective suggestions for how we could remediate several of our issues and also referred another vendor that he felt could better accommodate the smaller scale of our project. If we decide to do a full gutter replacement, APEX will be the first company I call back."

"A fantastic experience. I have a complicated roof with several valleys and angles. Chuck S. was a total professional, and I have total confidence as he guided me thru the options and choices. The precision and care of the installation was impressive, down to the small details. The installation crew was as hard working of a crew as I have ever seen. The tone was set by the owner being up on the roof with one arm in a cast pounding nails as fast as anyone else. Every night there was a 100% clean up. The level of care shown by the crew is summed up in one incident. My wife was in the yard and picked up a small piece of paper. One of the guys pounding nails stopped working to yell at her to stop doing that. Picking up was his job. This is the 3rd roofer I have used, and I will never call anyone else."

"I would totally recommend this company! Ariel went above and beyond for me when replacing my roof and gutters! Ariel would call me and let me know he was on the way or if he was running even 5 minutes behind. My house looks great and I will be using them again come spring to start replacing some of my windows. Thank you Ariel! Your crew was great, too."

"When I decided to replace every window in our home, I knew I had a lot of homework to do. I took it very seriously: learned a lot about windows, met with lots of contractors, got lots of quotes. I chose Home Improvements USA because: 1) the window was one of the best I've researched in terms of value, efficiency, and warranty, 2) their overall quote was not the highest or the lowest, they were right in the middle, and 3) they were able to offer a interest-free financing to help with paying for this huge project. They also have an A+ rating with BBB. So on paper it was a fairly easy decision, but would still have been scary if not for the absolute pleasure it was working with Justin. I met with a lot of guys who tried every known sleazy salesman tactic, Justin never did and always showed me great respect and courtesy. He was the only rep to make me feel like he was in this with me, like we were shopping for windows together. He was highly responsive all the way through, even during and after the install. He even came out all the way from Naperville to my home in Grayslake just to see how the install was going. As for the install: blown away. I didn't have a crew here to install 17 windows in 1-2 days... I had one guy, Mike, who carefully removed and installed each window one at a time. He had help with the big windows but would only let the guy lift and clean - it was clear he was a master craftsman and took great pride in his work. The only ding in this experience was that it took a while to get my order installed even after they arrived from the manufacturer, but now I understand that was just because Mike was unavailable, and I now know I wanted no one else installing my windows but him, so it was well worth the wait. We also replaced our entry door, and reconfigured a downspout - everything came out beautiful and I could not be happier. We intend to hire these guys again next year to replace all our siding. I still say do your homework, but if I could save anyone the trouble and pain of shopping for windows or siding, I would say just hire these guys and sit back and relax knowing you've made the right decision."

"The crew was very professional and completed the job on time. After they left we realized that the grooves of the new wood siding looked like they didn't get painted sufficiently. Otherwise we were happy with the work."

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Sycamore, IL

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
