"Very comfortable in dealing with Tim.  This is a big job for us.  He repaired damaged wood floors and then added wood where there was carpet in the remaining downstairs.  Then he re-carpeted the rest of the house.  In all he replaced or repaired every square inch of flooring in our house. <br /> Overall great guy.  Workers were nice.  They showed up on time and the job was finished on time as promised.  We had Tim's cell and he was always available to talk. <br /> When selecting the carpet and choosing the type of hardwood and stain color Tim went with us step by step and treated it as his own house. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They came as scheduled to install the floors, however when completing the 2nd day of flooring they did not install the final threshold and said that was not part of the job and I would have to hire someone to do the work or have my husband do it. This was the first time this information had been told to me. Now I have an incomplete job in my opinion and they refused to complete it. The carpet was installed to perfection. Shortly there after the 1/4-round molding was coming lose all around the hardwood floor, so I had another carpenter repair those. I did hire another carpenter to install the threshold, but the stain will never match, always a reminder of their workmanship."

"My husband and I interviewed 3 places for new carpet for 2 master bedrooms and closets (786 sq. ft.). The prices at all 3 were comparable, but we chose Flooring America because the salesman, Steve Railsback, was personable, professional, very helpful, knowledgeable, and very willing to answer all my questions. The carpet arrived within a week and the carpet was installed on the day of our choice. Steve told me that it would take 1 to 1-/2 days to install, but that he would try to make sure that they could get it accomplished in 1 day, if at all possible. The installers arrived at 10:05 AM on installation day and finished the first master bedroom and corresponding closet and left at 2:35 PM. 4-1/2 hours. They arrived the next day at 10:05 AM and completed the second master bedroom and corresponding closet (slightly smaller room with less furniture to move) and left at 1:05 PM. 3 hours. So the job took a total of 7-1/2 hours but they turned it into a 2-day job. Positives: The carpet looks great. The crew was very careful when moving furniture to make sure that the furniture wasn’t harmed and that if it was necessary to take things off the walls, they let us know. I was very appreciative of how that portion of the installation was handled. But… Negatives: (1) They did not clean up after themselves very thoroughly either day. They were actually in the driveway loading the van on day 2 when my husband made them come back and clean up and even then they did a poor job. (2) They parked on the grass without asking. (3) They drove over the grass. (4) They drove off the driveway onto decorative stone severely rutting it. (5) They left 3 fairly large oil stains on our driveway. I asked my husband if I should call and make them come back and clean the driveway and even out the stone since it will take him hours to clean up after them and his response was “I don’t ever want them here again!” He’s very laid back and doesn’t often get angry, but he’s angry now. (6) On day one, Bob asked if he could use the bathroom within a half hour of arrival. I said yes. I shouldn’t have. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I could not go near that portion of the house for over 2 hours because the smell was so bad that I was gagging. In over 45 years of owning a home, I have never had that happen with any other contractor. It was so disgusting! So, if you want a pleasant sales experience and good carpet at a fair price, FA is the place. If you are going to have it installed, go somewhere else!"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Sylva, NC

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
