"We had a great experience with this team from start to finish. Their communication was excellent right from the beginning and stayed consistent throughout the entire project, which made everything smooth and stress-free. They were also able to get us scheduled quickly, which we really appreciated. The concrete patio turned out great, and the whole process exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!"

"Devin does such good work! We used to have flooding in our front yard and he regraded the whole thing and ran drainage down to the culvert. He reseeded the yard and came to check on it after the first rain. He build us a gorgeous cedar fence around the aerating system and took out our grave driveway and put down a ground asphalt that settles and gives a really smooth drive with no sealing necessary. This work was done in good time and a lot of attention to detail. Anyone would be lucky to hire Devin. We feel like we have a new house!"

DAM Concrete is a new company, built off of 10+ years in the trade. I started with my families company in Toledo, OH and then I joined Local 886 as an apprentice and in 4 years I became a Foreman. I decided to move down the Columbus 3 years ago working as a supervisor for a company. I've been on all sorts of projects from residential driveways and stamped patios, to commercial warehouses and apartment building to just name a few. I've always had the goal to own my own company one day, and I'm starting to live that dream.

"<p>Great price, and professional work.  </p> <p>They ran into a few snags along the way but they worked very professionally with me to choose the best path/plan for dealing with them and offered me good choices and recommendations (I felt).  I also added scope along the way which Mitch worked with very well.  (as I know it disrupted their overall schedule and planning)  On top of having a good price, and doing good work, these guys were also the least destructive option as there was no way to get this work done without going over neighbor lawns.  They can do a lot of this heavy lifting by hand without large machinery (which is RARE).  The important thing is that I know it was still done correctly and Mitch took the time to walk me through the steps so I knew what was important and why.  (building my confidence in him and his team before they even put down the first retaining wall block.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>Very timely as promised and finished on time as well.  </p> <p>No question for me that I would recommend him and use him again.  My walls look and work fantastic.  My neighbors all wanted to know "where I had it done".  </p> <br />"

"It went smoothly exactly as Paul described the job. His crew installed a sump pump and ensured in drained to the curb. The crew replaced the drain run to the curb and dug around the existing bushes. The crew also connected the the roof downspout to the run to the curb. The crew installed a perforated pipe in a trench which created a floating basement floor on 3 sides of the basement. (the 4th wall was not necessary since was an interior wall.) They concreted over the pipe with a gap to the wall. they repaired and painted the basement walls."

"One screw type pier installed. 2 workers hand dug hole below bottom of foundation. Cleaned out under foundation for platform. Although foundation was deeper than I thought, the hole was done much better and quicker than I envisioned. Pier was screwed at bottom of hole with a hydraulic motor. Once limit on hydraulic pressure was reached, the pier was cut at proper level, platform installed, and cracked section of foundation was raised with a hydraulic jack. Crack in stonework closed up nicely without going too far and creating additional cracks. Workers had 5 and 15 years experience doing this work. Very professional and did a very nice job every step of the way. Note that I (homeowner) chose to move and reinstall landscaping stones and gutter drain. Also, tuckpointing/repairing the cracks was not included in the quote. I plan to do that myself at a later date."

"Tom is a super nice guy. Very pleasant and fun to talk to - from the first phone call to writing the check for the work. He fixed the downspout problem quickly - alleviating any more water at the base of the house with all the rain - and came back in a few days when it wasn't raining to remove the hoop. Ground where the hoop was looks great after he left - could hardly tell anything was done. <br />"

"1. Time. Once all the materials were in, the time from start to finish was delayed as a result of weather conditions and a couple of minor issues. This was to be expected (and should be with any contractor). Joel did an excellent job of working around the obstacles and coordinating the sub contractors. <br /> 2. Did we get what we wanted? Yes. New windows that function nicely and save energy. New siding, exterior and interior trim, porch post installed. Stucco repaired (looks new again and matched to existing work). Brick veneer was repaired very nicely (that in itself was a challenge for NJW). New gutters and down spouts match and function well. Exterior painting was really good (consistent texture, no runs). New garage door and hardware work great. <br /> 3. Was this what I expected from NJW? Yes. <br /> 4. Was the costs as expected? Yes. Stayed with-in estimate. <br />"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Thornville, OH

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
