"MKC Kitchens did an outstanding job with our kitchen redesign. I can't speak highly enough of their professionalism, creativity and extraordinary attention to detail. They were with us every step of the way from planning to completion and always exceeded our expectations. Pam was invaluable in helping us make all the decisions about design. She was super easy to communicate with and worked closely with our contractor. When there was a problem with a supplier, she took care of the problem quickly and effectively. Any construction is stressful, but with Pam on the case, everything went smoothly and I had no worries. I am very grateful to her for taking my vague ideas and turning them into my dream kitchen. In fact, I so enjoyed working with Pam, that I almost wish I had another kitchen to redesign! I highly recommend them."

"The design was prepared using software that allowed the contractor to display it on a monitor.   The contractor provided paper versions of the design and answered all questions. Viewing the design on the monitor was a good experience.  It provided a feel for how the kitchen would be, and prompted questions and exposed flaws.   Seller has small number of lines of cabinetry and counter tops. The design included items that were not requested.  I will continue to look for a kitchen contractor. <br />"

"Tom refaced our kitchen cabinets, replacing the doors and installing slide-out shelves and self-closing drawers below the counters, plus build a new cabinet with drawers. It was a pretty big job and took a few weeks. Worth every nickel. A much better set up now; everything looks and works great. He cleaned up at the end of each day so we could still use the kitchen. We would hire him again in a heart beat."

"Representative arrived promptly and assessed our needs.  He said that using our existing cabinets they would replace all existing drawer and door faces with new and custom build additional cabinets to fit our plan.  What surprised me was the cost of this exceeded several estimates we already received for all new cusom cabinets. <br /> We had all new cabinets built and installed by another contractor."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in Troy, NY

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
