"The home we are purchasing is in another state, we were not able to be there for the inspection. Our inspector was Vincent, we were sent a VERY detailed report with pictures the next day. The inspection included Radon testing and wood destroying insect inspection since we'll be moving to PA. We are very pleased on the timeliness and the recommendations given in the report. We would definitely recommend this company!!!!"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Paul arrived early at the home we needed inspected for our 203K loan. He inspected the home which was a 2 family, from top top bottom. Tested all plumbing and pointed out everything that needed attention. He answered all of our questions, explaining everything in complete detail as to ensure we understood everything. <br /> He tested for radon, which was something that was not a requirement for our loan, but we had requested. His report was thorough and well put together. <br /> His pleasant professional attitude and knowledge was worth every cent. We definately felt we got more then we paid for. His office was great and made sure we were emailed a copy of the report for our personal records."

"My experience was mixed because the equipment they sent was faulty and when we came home the house was filled with carbon dioxide as there was a leak in one of the generator hoses. The young man shared with me that when he left that morning he knew that the machine had a problem, but it was the only one left so he took it. They had to shut one down and then they told me that the temperature was still at an OK level downstairs in the basement to kill the mold, but it just was disappointing to spend that kind of money and not have top-notch equipment and have the house filled with propane gas."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Tunkhannock, PA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
