"Cipriano is FANTASTIC. He's punctual, responsive, knowledgeable, and takes tremendous PRIDE in his work - so it SHOWS. His work is TOP NOTCH. He replaced some really crappy turf that another installer had talked me into, and he installed beautiful, thick, high-end turf that looks real and feels amazing. And he did it all in LESS time than he said it would take, despite having to do it in between rain storms! He rearranged all the sprinklers, organized the system, moved an incredibly heavy piece of stone to another part of the yard, and just did an overall BEAUTIFUL job on our back yard! I cannot possibly recommend him HIGHLY ENOUGH!! I've had turf installed by three other companies in the past, and C.Perez is by FAR the absolute BEST. Quality, price, and professionalism! I will definitely ONLY call them in the future!"

"We are beyond satisfied clients that hired SES builders did with the replacement of all our existing windows with new ones, the installation of new roof and some stucco repairs and new exterior paint. Eli and his workers finished all the work on time and without any delays while they were very easygoing, hardworking people and definitely trustworthy. Eli had an amazing energy and very friendly personality. He made sure to explain to us all the details of the work and the benefits of the windows and roof that he recommended us to have. All the questions that we had (even the smallest one), was answered in a professional manner and in a fairly time frame. We recommend all the people at SES builders because they did a wonderful job and we are looking forward to hire them again."

"My husband and I are thrilled with our kitchen designed by Ran at Goodfellas. Not only is the finished product exactly what we hoped for, the customer service delivered by the team was amazing. Ran listened to our ideas for the kitchen and came up with a great design that is functional and looks so pleasing. He was super patient as we made small tweaks to the design until it was just as we wanted it. When it came time to install, Ran and his crew did an above and beyond job working with our uneven floors and ceiling. Working on the smallest details to get them just right, and all with a smile! The price is great especially for the high quality of cabinets and service. We went with custom paint colors and they did such a great job. I would highly encourage anyone getting a new kitchen to go with them. Ask for Ran!"

"Followup March 2018: I am happy to report that when I brought the problems with the July 2017 service (see below) to the attention of general manager Jim Avery, he took care of replacing the mulch that had been blown away. I appreciate him working with me to resolve the situation to my satisfaction. Kerry's tree service (Scott Rogers, foreman) trimmed my trees in July 2017. They did a decent job of trimming my trees… unfortunately, they wrecked much of the rest of my landscaping. They also refused to cut the vines off of the phone and cable TV wires (even though they're NOT dangerous power wires), and I had to have another tree company come out and do that. I had asked him to please be careful of my plants and he had said they would do their best. But they just TRAMPLED through my ground cover/flowers instead of going two feet out of their way to avoid it, and they completely wrecked it. (One picture attached is an area that had previously been lushly covered with bluebells, after they trampled it.) Worst of all, the open spaces of my yard had previously been covered with a beautiful, soft, fragrant bark mulch that I had handsomely paid a landscaper to install when I’d had my grass removed, and nice layer of eucalyptus leaves on top of that. It was beautiful, it looked like a forest floor. After trimming the trees, they took out their blowers to ‘clean up’. When I went out to take a look when they were finished, I couldn't believe my eyes - they had BLOWN AWAY ALL MY BARK MULCH, leaving nothing but bare ground and the sharp seed pods that fall from the eucalyptus trees (which apparently are too heavy for the blowers to move). I asked Scott “WHY DID YOU BLOW AWAY ALL MY MULCH?” And he had the nerve to BLAME IT ON ME: he just said, "Well, I wish you had said something before.” Seriously? After all these years of people removing their lawns, they don't know there’s such a thing as bark mulch?? He didn't take any responsibility, didn’t apologize, didn’t offer to replace it. Very, very careless and unprofessional. Also, they had knocked things over while dragging out branches, and as they were leaving, I noticed the top of my little folding table was missing. I pointed it out; again, Scott immediately denied responsibility and insisted, "It must have been like that.” But I asked the workers to please look for it, and they did find it in their trash and bring it back to me. They would have thrown it out if I hadn’t asked for it! If you have nothing but trees and concrete, they would probably do fine. But if you have any plants in your yard, I recommend you BLOCK THEM OFF WITH HAZARD TAPE to try to keep the workers from walking roughshod through them. And if you have any mulch, make sure to specifically ask them not to remove it!!"

"Luis and his crew were great. He found an opening in his schedule and fit me in. He cut the logs into fireplace size for me and loaded up my truck. Definitely using him again and telling my neighbors"

"Our outdoor barbeque/kitchen in the pool area was just done by Best Builders Group who was referred to us by a co-worker who hired them for his last remodeling project at his house and he was very happy with everything they did. Our remodeling project was a large scale remodeling project to our opinion BUT to Best Builders Group it was a normal size project and they provided all the required attention to detail and great working capabilities. We had some concerns on the plumbing & electrical but Zohar took care of all of them in a very professional manner. Part of the work was to build a custom fire pit and Zohar was always nice enough to do whatever we asked. All the workers on the other hand… always made sure to clean up & they never left the house without the cleaning task. The installations was done perfectly, professionally, clean and with perfection. This remodeling project came out to be such a wonderful entertaining spot of the house and I strongly recommend them."

FAQs for sod installation projects in Verdugo City, CA

Seeding costs less up front, but you’ll wait months—and sometimes a full season—for the grass to fill in. Sod costs more per square foot, yet it gives you an instant, usable lawn the day it’s installed and needs far less care during the first year.

If speed and early curb appeal matter, the higher sod price is often worth it; if you’re watching every dollar and don’t mind the wait, seed can still be a smart play.

Start by sketching your lawn and breaking it into rectangles or circles. Measure each section, multiply length by width, and then add all the sections together for the total square footage. Standard sod rolls are two feet by 1.5 feet, and one pallet covers 450 square feet.

Divide your total area by 450 to see how many pallets you need, then round up—extras come in handy for cutting around curves or mistakes. Still unsure? A local sod supplier or installer can confirm your math before you order.

Most sod grips the soil within 10 to 14 days. During that stretch, keep foot traffic to a minimum and mow only if the grass gets tall. After two weeks, the roots should be strong enough for light use, but wait six weeks before heavy play or frequent mowing. Giving the grass that short honeymoon helps it anchor firmly and sets the stage for a durable, healthy lawn.

Give your new lawn two full weeks before any foot traffic, then stick to light use only. Hold off on vigorous play, parties, or regular mowing until the six-week mark so the roots can dig deep. Keep watering on schedule and watch for any dry patches. A little patience now means stronger turf and fewer repairs later.

Keep an eye on color, moisture, and even growth. Fresh sod should stay uniformly green; brown spots or gaps hint at dry soil or poor contact. Water deeply at least once a day for the first week (more in hot weather) and back off gradually after the roots take. Avoid heavy foot traffic until the grass feels firmly anchored. Quick attention to trouble spots now prevents costly patches later.

Aim for spring or early fall when daytime temps hover between 55°F and 80°F. Mild weather and consistent moisture help the roots knit quickly. Laying sod in midsummer can stress the grass, while frozen winter soil blocks rooting altogether.

If you must install outside the ideal window, budget extra time for watering and tending to the turf. Choosing the right season makes the job easier and the lawn tougher.
