"A great experience overall, from the estimate stage and on through the installation and cleanup stage. Estimate appointment was setup quickly and conducted in-person. At that stage, they offered useful options and recommendations. The price was reasonable. The installation was scheduled with little wait and was conducted skillfully and efficiently, with good clean-up at completion. The fence is solid and looks great. I highly recommend this company and would use them again."

"I first contacted Todd in March. I spoke with him and a few other firms. He was not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either. I read the reviews on Angies and chose him despite one somewhat negative one, which I mentioned to him. Todd is a great and extensive talker and his explanations seemed reasonable as did his description of what he would do to my driveway. That included removal, adding compacted gravel, and when we asked for it, rebar, cutting a clean line at the street and creating a neat transition between the street and the driveway. When we discussed how I wanted a different color for the pathway than the driveway, he said he would do the integrated color, but that a stain might be cheaper. He did end up doing a stain, though there was no reduction in price. I took him to a driveway in my neighborhood to show him how I wanted the finished job to look and he seemed very knowledgable and told he it would be no problem. <br /> <br /> I became uneasy when he kept delaying the start of demo because of a lack of a dump truck (an extra charge for me, not included in the original bid). Finally they started, Todd, another worker and his girlfriend. It turned out that he did not need to add the compacted gravel, but when I asked for a credit he told me that he had to haul away so much dirt that he would have charged me for that so no credit. I had foolishly thought the removal of the old driveway included hauling the debris. In the process of digging out the new driveway\path my underground sprinkler was cut. Over the years tree roots had wound around the sprinkler line, making repair difficult. Also in removing the river rock Todd removed a great deal of soil and it had to be replaced. Initially when he broke the sprinkler line, he told me it was no problem he would repair it, which I expected, because in the course of initial discussions he assured me he would leave everything looking good. <br /> <br /> When the he tried to cut a clean line between the street and the drive, it crumbled. I'm not sure why though he told me it was because the street was old. I think it was perhaps he didn't use a saw. He seems to have a lack of proper equipment. To create a transition between the street and the driveway, Todd used cold patch asphalt, which looked dreadful. I called him and he told me that it would look better over time and that he did it as a favor to me. Also as a favor to me he brought some dirt from his home and did a poor job of replacing some concrete pavers that had been removed in the course of the work. I did myself a favor and called in a professional asphalt company who removed the bad asphalt job and did it right. I also called in my hardscape guy who fixed the pavers and filled in the areas of missing dirt. <br /> <br /> It turned out Todd wanted to be paid for the sprinkler repair and couple buckets of dirt, I told him I wasn't happy with the price and we reached a compromise. <br /> <br /> I was unable to be home when Todd came to seal the driveway, but I had called and told him there were marks on the driveway from when he stained the path and put in his asphalt patch. He assured me he would clean it all away. After the sealing the marks were still there. They are not terribly noticeable, but what is very noticeable is the 2 inch chunk that broke off a corner by one of the cuts. This occurred yesterday, less than a month after final completion. Todd came by to pick up the final check and took a look at it, blamed the nature of concrete and the kind of cut. I might even be to blame for gluing a piece back in place. He said he could fix it with a patch but it wouldn't look the same. <br /> <br /> After having paid so much for this job I have to say I regret not just doing asphalt again. My driveway doesn't have the polished, professional look of the driveway I had taken him to see. Todd is a nice young man, but he hurries, doesn't pay attention to detail, blames everything else when there is a problem. I never felt that doing the best job for me and making sure I was satisfied was his top priority. It is too bad really, because I think he has the skills to be excellent. <br />"

"My home had two pathways on the north and south sides of our house that we had put in ourselves. The north pathway (rock & cement) was very uneven and moss had made it slick over time. The south pathway was a gravel path with circular cement steppingstones where the stones had shifted position over time. There was also a cement slab off the driveway leading to the gravel path. Both the north and south pathways were uneven to walk on or move anything across its surface. After 29 years, it was time to replace both pathways. I happened to encounter System Pavers at the Portland Outdoor Living Show and contacted them. Design consultant, Lidiana, kept her appointment promptly, she was friendly, and provided good selection choices, lots of examples, and brochures on how I could redesign the pathways. I liked the fact that System Pavers seemed very professional, reliable, and willing to guarantee their work and paving projects. Therefore, I proceeded with signing up for the pathways to be replaced by System Pavers. It was about a week or so later that the project manager, Matt, came out to assess and verify the plans and measurements initially done by Lidiana. I encountered delays in scheduling (a week later from what was originally scheduled) so I had to reschedule all my appointments in order to clear my schedule so I could be available for the crew while the construction was in progress. I wanted to be on-site at home in case there were any questions. The materials for the job were delivered on a Wednesday to my driveway, several days in advance of the work starting, and I was concerned about the materials (i.e. theft concern) since the crew didn’t start until the following Monday. Once the entire project was completed, there were about 2-1/2 pallets of materials leftover that the crew advised were going to the “dump” and I was asked if I wanted any of the leftover material. For this reason, I question why too much material was ordered considering both the design consultant and project manager took measurements of the existing pathways before ordering the materials for the pathways project. I was NOT credited for the excess materials. Which is why I am giving a rating of 4 not 5 stars. The 3-man System Pavers crew started on a Monday and took a week to complete both pathways by the end of the week on Friday. The crew’s start times varied at the start of the week but by mid-week they started about 8am. The crew worked very hard and even worked in the pouring rain on one of the days. From lifting and removing the old steppingstones & gravel, using a jack hammer to remove the old concrete and rock path, removing the dirt & gravel, etc.; the crew did a great job of tearing up and removing the old paths. Then the 3-man crew worked tirelessly to install the layers (gravel, cement, mesh, bricks, polymer sand, etc.) to build both north and south pathways. The crew tried their best to clean up the rocks, dirt, and debris on my driveway as best as they could. Herman even did a great job in moving two of the sprinkler heads so they would be out of the pathway to make for a more aesthetic appearance. I appreciate the crew answering my questions (i.e. Rodger) and being very accommodating to my requests while the work was in progress. Project Manager, Matt L. was very professional. He ensured that the crew did not disrupt or cut any underground cables nor damage sprinklers in place. It gave me peace of mind knowing he was on top of that. He responded to my “text” questions promptly every step of the project. I’m ecstatic about the look of the new pathways… they both look fantastic!! The new pathways really improve the look of the yard. What a relief too, to finally be able to walk on an “even” path. I’m so glad I had System Pavers replace the pathways. Overall, I’m very pleased with the new pathways and the quality of their work. I would recommend System Pavers for their paving work."

"The entire project took almost two weeks and included removal of all the <br /> stair ways and existing patios, regrading the grounds, adding gravel <br /> and clean up. They exceeded our expectations in every respect. We were <br /> concerned that with their bid being the lowest of four that corners <br /> might be cut but none were. I would hire them again for any kind of <br /> concrete work and highly recommend them here. <br />"

"Very responsive to come out and give us a bid. Right on time for the appointment. No pressure, low key sales which we appreciated. <br /> If we have concrete work to do in the future we won't hesitate to use them. They were very competitive with the other concrete bid we received. <br />"

"The owner of this firm, Todd Poirier, soon returned my call to his business.  I have a 1940's garage that has many cracks in the foundation and in the concrete floor.  I wish to have it repaired, rather than replaced, because I like the old garage.  He was very positive over the phone.  He thanked me for considering him for my business and visited me the next day.  His firm was unable to perform the work I required, but he recommended someone else to do the job.  He again thanked me for calling him and later that day telephoned me with another recommendation.  He encouraged me to get more than one bid.  He has a "can do" attitude.  I was sorry that I could not have him do my work.  THANK YOU TODD!! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Unlike other contractors who bid on the projct, Elmer was very knowledgable about options. He listened to what I wanted, but also provided his ideas based on his experience (which I always ended up going with). He did not and quot;nickle and dimeand quot; me over small changes to the plan and his price was very competitive. 6 months later, everything still looks amazing and I can't wait to enjoy my new front yard this summer! The concrete and rock wall were very well done and he charged much less than some of the other bids for the same quality of materials. <br />"

"We had a large concrete patio that had multiple large cracks and a large portion of the patio was sinking and moving. Modular Paving Systems (MPS) was selected to replace the existing patio with pavers. <br /> We had considered replacing the patio with stamped concrete but decided against it because of the need to maintain support of a large patio cover. MPS proposed paving over the existing concrete patio for a number of cost and design considerations. They also proposed a solution to resolve the drainage problem that was causing a large portion of the concrete patio to move. <br /> Prior to making their bid they made several on-site visits to make sure they had solutions for all of the challenging technical parts of the job. Their communications with us were very collaborative. We felt like we understood the issues and the planned solutions. <br /> They prepared the written design and statement of work that needed to be presented to our home owners association for architectural review. This was done prior to contract signing. <br /> The project was approved by the HOA, the contract was signed, a 50% deposit was made and they started work on the agreed schedule date. <br /> We were very impressed with the quality and completeness of the sales and design process and we were equally impressed with the project construction crew and their work. They are skilled workers with the right tools for the job. They were considerate of the neighborhood and neighbor's concerns. The cleanup after each work day was very good at the end of the work week it was excellent! We did not need to ask, they just do it. <br /> During the construction phase we were impressed enough with the quality of their work that we added a change order to the project to re-do some work of a previous contractor and make the projects fit together better that the original plan. <br /> <strong> Overall,<br /> Modular Paving Systems is a class act from beginning to end. They have the experience, skills, tools and customer service ethic one would like to find in every contractor they hire. Based on our experience we would absolutely recommend them.</strong>t"

FAQs for concrete driveways & floors installation projects in Vernonia, OR

Polished concrete floors offer many benefits with very few drawbacks. While issues like discoloration, stains, or imprints may occur during pouring, these are rare when working with a skilled flooring contractor. Once polished, concrete floors are easy to maintain, long-lasting, and eco-friendly. They also resist mold and moisture, making them ideal for allergy-prone households, and offer versatile design options for both indoor and outdoor use.

Polished concrete flooring is often more affordable than tile. It involves lower material costs and less labor-intensive installation. Tile installations require additional leveling and preparation, which increases labor costs. Opting for concrete flooring helps reduce upfront expenses and provides a durable, stylish finish that saves money over time with minimal maintenance.

While epoxy flooring offers enhanced durability and toughness compared to polished concrete, it comes with higher material and labor costs. If budget is a top priority, polished concrete floors provide a resilient and attractive finish without the premium price tag, making them an ideal choice for value and long-term performance.

Polished concrete floors last 20 years or more when installed by licensed professionals and maintained with proper care. Their enduring finish withstands heavy use and remains visually impressive for decades. Regular deep cleaning and maintenance help safeguard the floor’s integrity, providing homeowners with a long-lasting, cost‐effective solution that endures daily wear without compromising style.

Polished concrete floors increase home value by offering a modern, sleek appearance and exceptional durability. A professionally installed floor not only enhances visual appeal but also minimizes maintenance expenses, making the property more attractive to prospective buyers. This flooring upgrade delivers a refined look while boosting overall market competitiveness and long-term property value.
