"James and crew did a great job installing my new roof. The roof was in pretty bad shape and now the new roof looks great ! James came out for the estimate and the whole process was professional. He explained the process and recommended the shingles. He promptly followed up with a written estimate. The work was done 2 weeks early as an opening came up and he was able to fit me in. The job itself went great, even though rain was a factor. James did me a huge favor by removing his trailer from my driveway while we waited for the rain to clear a few days, so that my neighbor could get in and out of the connected driveway. The thing you should know about J Parker is responsiveness and follow up. Anytime I had a question, James was always there via phone to speak or text and even after the job was complete, he helped me with a few unrelated jobs to the Roof, for which I was tremendously grateful. The bottom line is you can't go wrong selecting J Parker. Most roofers I contacted wouldn't even meet me for the estimate process, let alone call you back. James will do a great job for you and the price is reasonable. When you meet James, I can pretty much guarantee that you will be impressed with his knowledge and follow up. And, most importantly, you will be happy with your new roof."

"I got a total of four estimates. Michael and another roofer gave me very similarly quotes, while other two roofers gave a quote 60-70% higher . Michael is very responsive, professional. I like both Michael and the other roofer. It was a very hard decision for me to decide which roofer to use. Even though I did not use Michael's service, I still want to say that he is a great guy to work with.

"This was a very difficult job between two roof peaks to correct a construction defect. Gideon did a fantastic job. I climbed up on the roof myself to get as closer look once the job was completed and the quality and workmanship is top notch."

"PHR salesman came to the house for quoting window replacement for all windows that needed it, and at our request itemized by room/area separately. We had already ball-parked roughly $1000 per window installed, parts & labor. Salesman was extremely knowledgeable about company and products, and pricing was additionally discounted for being a BJ's Wholesale member. Then there was an additional discount for "sign today" which we took advantage of for one section/area of our house that desperately needed new windows due to non-opening status and failing seals/insulation. Total project came out to just under $1K per window with all discounts so it was a good buy. Salesman measured for initial quote. About 3 weeks later a pre-install inspector came out to re-measure and finalize details for install scheduled 1 month later. Install was delayed due to COVID-19 shutdowns but company kept us posted on restart plans. Actual install was 2-3 months later. Installer - 1 guy, not a crew - came out promptly at the start of the appointment time (730a) and re-measured everything before touching anything. Tackled the most complex/largest window first, took him 3 hours to remove old and install new. Very meticulous with spray-foam insulation and caulking, caulking, caulking. New windows are smaller surface area than old windows due to insert style of replacement. Easy to open and close (casement/crank) and screens are very low-profile, easy to remove for cleaning. Project manager came out to check status towards end of install (all day, almost 12 hours) and go over all details, warranty info, answer q's, etc. Installer was protective of all areas and cleaned up thoroughly, inside and out. Only problem through the entire process was that PHG phone numbers appear as "Potential Spam" on mobile phone screeners so you have to answer those calls when you know you're waiting on calls for scheduling, appointment confirmations, etc. When they left voicemails, the reps wouldn't leave direct dial or extension numbers so you have to call the main 800 number and wait through menus to get to a person; that said, every rep was able to look up the account and check status, answer questions, give info, etc. so they are a very large company but must have a very detailed records system, with employees who actually use it to log all actions. Will wait and see if any problems develop with the product or installation. After 1 rainstorm, no leaks. Sun/heat is definitely cut down dramatically. So far so good. If all stays good, will definitely consider PHG for future work."

"Just wanted to thank Green Heating Cooling & Electric for coming out when they did. Our heater was not working on a day where the outside temperature was 34 degrees. Called several heating companies but they all couldn't come out until after noon. Then I was fortunate to call Green Heating Cooling & Electric and George told me they can come out in late morning. I agreed but asked if he could find a way to come earlier. He called me back minutes later to tell me they were able to fit us in within the next half hour. I was so thankful for their rescheduling efforts. Then when the servicemen came, they were very professional. Checked the system: water level, damper operation, gas switch, venting, etc. Along the way, they explained what to look for and found that the blocked vent switch triggered and had cut off gas to the heater. Soon, the heater was running again. All in all, great experience and was happy to have called Green Heating Cooling & Electric."

"I wanted to get a sense for how much a new roof would cost (planning budget for next 2-3 years). Isaac was able to give me a rough ballpark over the phone based on my roof dimensions and best/worst case scenarios. Thanks Isaac!"

FAQs for heating cable for roof installation projects in Villanova, PA

A typical heat cable uses 5 watts per foot, regardless of the outside temperature. So, if your cable is 100 feet long, it uses 500 watts per hour. Expect to pay an additional $40 to $200 or more per month on your electricity bill. Be sure to turn manual cables off in the summer when you don't need them.

To install heat tape on your roof, place it along the lower edge in a precise zig-zag pattern to maximize coverage and heat distribution. Professional installers secure the tape with specialized clips that attach firmly to your shingles. This method ensures even heat distribution to effectively melt ice and snow while maintaining your roof's integrity during severe winter conditions.

Choosing between heated gutters and roof heating cables usually comes down to budget, appearance, and performance. Heated gutters cost less to install and blend seamlessly with your home’s exterior, making them a discreet, lower-cost option for preventing ice dams. Roof heating cables deliver more customizable and powerful heat along roof edges to handle heavy snow and ice, but they require more material and labor, increasing your upfront investment. Evaluate your roof design, winter weather demands, and energy budget to select the system that works best for your property.

Roof heating cables prevent ice dams by melting snow and stopping ice buildup at the roof edge. Ice damming occurs when melting snow refreezes on a cold roof—often right above the gutter line—and blocks water from draining, which can force moisture under shingles into your home. Heating cables maintain a warm channel that clears ice dams as soon as they form and protects your roof from water damage and structural issues.

Roof heating cables last between two and ten years before replacement is needed, wearing out faster than your roof itself. Their lifespan depends on climate severity, cable type, and exposure to physical damage. Consistent inspections and preventative maintenance—such as clearing debris, tightening clips, and checking electrical connections—can extend their service life and ensure reliable snow and ice protection each winter.

To safely remove snow from your roof, start with a specially designed roof rake, standing firmly on the ground and pulling snow downhill rather than climbing onto the roof. You can also apply calcium chloride ice melt to break up stubborn ice or gently use a secured rope from a safe vantage point.

Keep in mind that large snow slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and pose a serious fall risk. If conditions are hazardous or you lack the right equipment, hire a professional to protect your safety and your roof’s integrity.
