"John Mills roofing is absolutely one of the best companies in the area. Their team is fantastic, they are responsive, and their work is impeccable. I had them replace my roof and gutters, and they did an exceptional job. I would highly recommend them."

"<p>They showed up on time and he was obviously competent and professional in his dealings. He brought plenty of samples for us to look at.  He has gotten very busy. Hurricane Matthew put him way behind so he has not been as responsive as I would have liked, but I think that is the situation. When he told me he was going to be here at a certain time he was here at a certain time. </p>"

"Wayne was our realtor over a 2.5 year period. Since we were fortunate to not rush into buying a home, we were able to wait until we could find the right house for us. Wayne was with us for the entire period visiting homes across the Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield areas. By having his construction background, he was essentially a general contractor visiting homes with us calling out any red flags that might cost us money later on. Never did we feel pressured into any situation - in fact, Wayne often times gave us his sincere opinion that there might be better options for us. He was absolutely right, we finally found our perfect home and are now living happily in it. Since he was such a gentlemen during the process, we will now hire him to remodel a few areas that we will eventually do. Not only did we get a home when meeting Wayne, we got a friend!"

"Our "only" negative comment about Ground Zero Shelters is that they do not come to a persons residence to give the sales pitch and demonstration. You must go to their showroom or see their product at a home show. This being said, we were extremely happy with the sales experience, reminders and installation of our shelter. They called about 10 days prior to the installation for a reminder, their installers called the day before and the morning of the installation to remind us that they would be at our home at the designated time. They showed up as promised and were completed with the installation in less than 1 1/2 hours time! Thank you Ground Zero!"

"Insurance did pay for some of it. We had contacted them and tons of stuff had happened with the weather and so they were backlogged. They came in and had the work done in 2 days. There were 5 or 6 people. Some people were taking the roof off and others were laying it down. They were hauling things out and they cleaned up. If there were any nails, they vacuumed everything. They did a really good job. The workers were good. They didn't speak much of English but they were very professional about their job and they knew what to do."

"We live on a hill, with a set of steps to navigate the front yard, that end in a landing at the bottom. They were destroyed in an accident. Steve and his crew at SS Creative were the contractor I selected to repair the work. They did an excellent job matching the new construction to the old construction. Although I didn't expect it, they finished the job on Christmas Eve! I intend to call them for future projects. Excellent craftsmanship!"

"Ran into considerable leakage and wood rot that needed to be replaced before gutter installation. The work performed by the Gutter Glove team was done expeditiously and professionally. I had contacted them due to the recommendations on Angie's list without any previous knowledge or experience with this company. Ricky inspired confidence with his professionalism and personal touch. He, and team inspired confidence despite having no previous experience with this company. I would recommend them highly."

FAQs for roofing installation & roof repair projects in Walkerton, VA

An average Cape Cod roof-raising project requires approximately two to three months from start to finish. The timeline depends on several variables, including weather conditions, contractor availability, material delivery schedules, and the specific complexity of your home's structure. The process involves multiple phases, including demolition, framing, roofing, window installation, and interior finishing. Working with an experienced contractor who provides a detailed timeline can help set realistic expectations for the project duration.

While most Cape Cod homes can accommodate roof-raising modifications, each house requires individual structural assessment. Older homes may need foundation reinforcement or wall strengthening before supporting additional weight. Factors like the existing roof framing system, load-bearing wall placement, and overall structural integrity all influence feasibility. A qualified structural engineer should evaluate your specific property before proceeding with design plans. Additionally, local zoning ordinances may restrict maximum building height or architectural modifications in certain neighborhoods.

Temporary relocation is highly recommended during a Cape Cod roof raising project. The construction process involves removing portions of your existing roof, exposing interior spaces to potential weather damage, and creating significant noise and dust. Most homeowners find temporary accommodations for the two to three-month construction period, with relocation costs ranging from $2,000 to $6,000, depending on your housing choices. If staying with family or friends isn't possible, budget for short-term rental or extended-stay hotel expenses as part of your overall project cost.

Consider roof raising when you experience severely limited headroom throughout the second floor, find yourself constantly stooping under sloped ceilings, or have minimal usable floor space due to low ceiling heights. Other indicators include inadequate natural light, poor ventilation, and difficulty accommodating standard furniture in upstairs rooms. Simple renovations can improve an attic's appearance, but cannot create additional headroom without structural modifications. A complete roof-raising project makes more sense than cosmetic renovations if you're seeking genuine second-floor living space rather than just storage improvements.

Begin your search by seeking contractors with specific experience in Cape Cod structural modifications and dormer additions. Request detailed portfolios showing similar completed projects and ask for references from previous clients with comparable work. Verify that potential contractors hold appropriate licenses and insurance coverage and understand local building codes relevant to roof raising. Interview multiple candidates, comparing price quotes and their communication style, project approach, and proposed timeline. The ideal contractor should demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cape Cod architectural characteristics and structural requirements.
