"Rema was very thorough when installing my new kitchen faucet. He came to my home at 6:15pm, which surprised me. In my experience, it’s difficult to get a plumber past 5pm! My faucet works perfectly and he was very nice. He said he has been doing plumbing for 20 years! I think I have found my “go to” plumber!"

"We hired Kozan Construction to do some major plumbing construction work moving the plumbing for a washing machine and utility sink and reworking the plumbing for a bathroom sink. They provided a fair bid and so we hired them and were told the project would take a week. Faruk was respectful and hard-working and would accommodate all of our requests to have pipes or the levers moved and straightened. Our main issue was scheduling, as he had a number of other plumbing emergencies that delayed our project and left us without laundry for two weeks. The work was good and done all up to code, so if you have some flexibility with your timeframe, or it s a emergency call then I definitely recommend. If not, just make sure you work out a schedule ahead of time so you know what to expect."

ANDY HAWKEY PLUMBING

"I found Andy Hawkey through Angie's List and Consumer Checkbook, where he is rated superior for price and quality of work.  Andy lived up to that rating.  He spent over two hours replacing a pressure relief valve; installing a backup battery sump pump; and repairing a leaking hose bib.  I had a backup battery sump pump from a previous home.  Before installing it Andy determined it wasn't working correctly and suggested that I purchase a new one.  Andy did other work while I ran to Lowes and purchased a new unit. I asked if I needed to replace the sump pump at this time or could I hold off for now.  Andy looked at the unit and said it made sense to not replace it at this time (the unit is 8 years old) and wait until there is a problem with it.  Instead of replacing a hose bib that was leaking, Andy repaired it and didn't charge me for that service.  Andy showed up on time and was a true professional in all his work and dealings.  His wife accompanied him and helped out as needed.  I highly recommend Andy Hawkey Plumbing. <br />"

"Brookland plumbing performed a variety of projects. They found the source of a leak from our first floor bathroom to the basement bathroom. They replaced the old toilet and solved the problem. The team also did extensive work to replace old corroded galvanized pipes with copper pipes. In addition we had our old sink and bath fixtures replaced. Brookland plumbing crew were diligent, professional and we are very happy with the work."

"This is the second time I've used 1st Choice Plumbing. The company is a one man operation that is run by Mr. Linneer Mabry. Mr. Mabry always gives a courtesy call. He was in the area so he called and asked if it was alright to arrive an hour early which was nice. He inspected our areas of concern, gave a quote and began the repairs and installation immediately. I was very satisfied with his work. Mr. Mabry called the next day to ensure that everything was working fine. He stands behind his work and takes no shortcuts. It's hard to find an honest plumber these days with such a hard work ethic."

"Perfectly. It started with an almost immediate response to my request for a quote from Dave Glick, the owner. I sent him pictures of all the valves and he responded with an estimate quickly. He was very accommodating to my schedule in setting up an appointment, and the plumbers - Tom and Mark - arrive promptly on the specified day. They were thoroughly professional and efficient, and completed the entire job that day. In replacing several of the valves, they also managed to simplify some unnecessary complexity in the plumbing that had resulted from previous modifications. We are planning additional plumbing work - replacing the two sinks and the fixtures on a tub/shower - and will most certainly use Aspen Hill Plumbing for those jobs."

"We’ve worked with various contractors in the past on numerous house projects, but AC Remodeling is by far the BEST — by a long shot. We decided to hire Alex and his team to renovate our 1600-sq basement because their price seemed the most reasonable, they presented us a transparent process with thorough details, and they just seemed to be lovely and honest people. It turned out that we were absolutely right. Turning a 1600-sq basement (half of which was unfinished) into a full-blown finished apartment with a full kitchen, 2 living areas, a storage & laundry room, and a master bedroom with a master bath is no small task. They were literally building from nothing for the most parts. The process inevitably presented obstacles just like all other renovation projects. But, wow, AC handled everything so well that each step along the way they never failed to impress us! Not to mention their great attention to details. Alex always provided us with his honest opinion and thoughtful suggestions while also respected ours. Alex also came every day throughout the entire process and provided us with update on progress. Carolina provided us with design ideas and she is just so wonderful to work with. So is Melissa. We enjoyed going shopping and selecting kitchen and bathroom stuff, etc. with them all. Their crew is also awesome. Actually the best! They are such polite and friendly people, and definitely SOLID workers. They worked together very well and so joyfully - always with positive attitude. For the two months they were here, we enjoyed seeing them every day, chatting with them about progress, and just seeing them work! We were in no rush to get them out of the house simply because they were just so wonderful to have. At the end of the project, we felt Alex and his family have become such good friends of ours. We highly recommend AC with no reservations. In fact we are talking about future projects with them already. They have no doubt earned our trust and delivered amazing work just as they promised. We are so grateful that we had this opportunity to work together and looking forward to more in the future!"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Washington DC, DC

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
