Customers say: Quick response

"I had Kris come and install Rinnai hot water heater. He helped us pick the one which was suitable for our hot water needs. Kris was on time, installed it in a couple of hours , and left the basement spotless. Last year I had trouble with water running cold because moth had entered the inner housing. He came and cleaned the inside, and got it working again. Heâ s professional, awesome at his work and very reasonable. I highly recommended him for all your plumbing needs."

"I called and spoke with Michele and explained my issues. She was not sure they could get to us that week (they are located near Batavia), but called me back after 20 minutes to set up a home visit. Dan happened to be in Syracuse one day that week, so we made an appointment for the 15th. Dan tested our water, explained the system we have in the house currently, and soon deducted that our boiler system had been serviced about the same time that the problem began. As it turned out, the Anode rod that was put in our water heater was the wrong type, and was causing the iron to pull from the water and caused the smell. Once we removed the anode rod, the smell went away and the iron problems diminished almost immediately. We did change to resin guard salt pellets to help the softener system stay clean. Thank you Dan! <br />"

"The whole job went very smoothly. I had called the village office because I knew that I had to have the leaking shut-off valve replaced and I knew that someone from the village would have to turn off the water. When I explained that I wasn't sure about how to make this all happen, they recommended Gregg's Plumbing to me because a lot of people in the village use him and because he has coordinated this kind of thing before. So, I called Greg and left a message and he promptly returned my call. He was able to come out and check the problem the next day. He had some other work that had to be taken care of first but he said that he would get it all arranged and let me know when he could come back. It actually took him about two weeks to come back, but I have a feeling that if it had been an emergency situation he would have been there faster so I was not bothered about the time. It didn't take him long to the actual job and he was extremely pleasant and professional. I also asked him to take a look at an upstairs bathroom and discussed with him the possibility of doing some work up there. I will definitely call him again."

"They showed up on time that morning and got to work immediately. They had a fair amount of work cut out for them, as I was converting my home from a 2-family home back to its original single-family home layout. They removed the 2 old hot water tanks that were in the basement, reconfigured the plumbing to tie everything together into 1 system, replaced a lot of shoddy plumbing done by previous homeowners, and installed a tank-less water heater. They completed the work the same day. There were no significant, unpleasant surprises. The work was completed 10 months ago, and there hasn't been an issue since."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Watertown, NY

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
