"Our heater stopped functioning on Nov 27, 2023 and we called Petro who had done the maintenance on it before and replaced a motor two years ago. They were responsive and a technician came two days later. He worked for 3 hours without explaining what the problem was. Then said he needed to replace the motor. He fixed the problem and left without much explanation. Two days later a bill of $2500 came via email. No explanation, no break-down. I called 4 times over the last 20 days, spoke to 4 different reps and was promised that a supervisor will contact me with the bill details. Nothing happened. Irresponsible customer service and unprofessional behavior. They show all the symptoms of big, bureaucratic, and indifferent service company. I would not recommend Petro if you have options of more personalized services."

"For the past two months, I've been having problems with my Buderus propane furnace. I called Whitney Oil for service because they originally installed it when I brought my unit six years ago. First it died on a Friday afternoon and wouldn't work at all. They determined the control unit was bad, but I had to go an entire weekend without heat until they could obtain one from their supplier and replace it. That seemed to solve that problem. Then it started spitting out soot, which indicates incomplete combustion and could be a serious health hazard. They eventually decided it had the wrong orifice and changed it, which seemed to work. Then it started triggering over and over again when it tried to light. I could hear it trying multiple times, sometimes for a couple of minutes, before it would finally light. They tried a number of things and finally replaced the gas pressure valve. Then the soot problem recurred, only much worse than before. All this time, the flame was never the bright blue color you expect, but rather a yellow-orange. They thought there might be a draft problem, so my condo maintenance man got involved, went up on the roof and examined the chimney, but couldn't find any thing to explain the poor performance, just a lot of soot. They would come, clean it out, and then a couple of days later, the soot would be back. It got to the point where I dreaded calling them, thinking that they might have me pegged as a chronic complainer, but every time I called, they sent someone over who spent a considerable amount of time trying to figure out what was going on. Finally, despite all their efforts, I had another episode where it stopped working late at night and finally, I got fed up and asked them to replace the unit. Barry Whitney offered me a brand new furnace (the same model as he has in his own house), at cost. And he didn't charge me for the 40-50 man hours his team spent trying to get my 6-year-old furnace working properly because they didn't solve my problem. They don't know I'm posting this, but I wanted to let everyone know that Whitney is an honest and reliable company dedicated to quality customer service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"

Available 24/7. Specializes in all electrical services, fire alarm and HVAC controls. Commercial and Residential. Remodels, Panel upgrade, new construction, maintenance.
"I called the Quick Response due to the rating in Angie's list. I needed a new outlet installed for our dishwasher we were installing. They gave me an estimated time (Saturday 5 PM) which both parties agreed to. They contacted me because they were able to come earlier and that suited me fine (4 PM). They were in and out and did professional work. They were extremely friendly. I will definitely contact them again for other electrical jobs. I also asked for a quote for a new electrical box."

Contracting services
"Michael and his crew built a large addition to our house on what was once a walk up attic. The homeowners supplied approved prints, engaged the architect, and handled processing a variance with the city. Michael acquired the permit and provided the building/contracting services. The permit was acquired in August, work did not begin until November, and the permit was closed in September the following year. Overall, Michael’s direct employees (foreman, carpenters, and painters) did a good job; finish work was excellent. However, his subcontractors (plumbing, HVAC, electrician) repeatedly caused substantial trouble and showed a lack of care/understanding in their work. Plumbers shouldn’t pretend to be electricians, and HVAC contractors should engineer their install and follow manufacturer’s specifications - it’s not a guessing game. Michael himself was at times easy to deal with and understanding (like when our attic was flooded causing damage to the lower two floors), and other times patronizing and seemingly unaware of his own subs schedules. Poor project planning early on w/material lead times (windows) lead to no attic insulation over the winter & a pest infestation. Quoting & invoicing from Michael had double counted items and was obviously copied over from a previous project, while leaving out key items such as masonry work. Multiple mistakes set the project back and cost us time, sanity, comfort, and money (some of which was reimbursed). The list includes: frying the main thermostat (multiple times), shorting out the boiler control board, reversing hot/cold water lines, leaving water to the house mostly shutoff, the list goes on… None of these problems were identified by the contractors but left for us (homeowners) to discover in a string of unfortunate test scenarios during the evening. To Michael’s credit most were fixed reasonably quickly. The HVAC subs were probably the most consternating, repeatedly demonstrating a lack of understanding in their own profession which at several points nearly derailed the entire project. As the last laugh the project was ‘finished’ without ever testing the heat in the new 3rd floor, and the A/C system still struggles with low cooling demands. We would not recommend hiring them for a major addition. We do not trust their subcontractors. If you have a simple painting, carpentry, bathroom, or kitchen renos they can probably handle it."
