"Martin Asphalt Paving sealed my driveway and filled in cracks in the pavement. The staff were very respectful of me and my property and took time to explain what they would be doing and demonstrated great caution to prevent any sealer from getting on the house/siding. Were there and done in no time."

Customers say: Quick response

"Pleasant and customer focused; requested a short notice (4 day) upgrade of driveway before Thanksgiving... at first he was not able to fit us in. He then showed up and completed the work before the holiday. We expect to have additional work done in the spring. Highly recommend!"

"Excellent! I'd bought a beautiful slab French door last year from Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and painted it this past winter, but had difficulty finding someone to install it. After doing a lot of research, I found that installing a slab door requires a high degree of carpentry skill. <br /> I got David's name from my aunt - he has done some work for her. He came by on 08/13/15 with his assistant Seth to look at the job. The installation was complicated by the fact that the French door is a true exterior door - 1-3/4' thick, whereas the original back door  was 1-5/8" thick. After discussing two approaches to adjust for the great thickness, we went with my approach of trimming the door stop by 3/8" so that the door would sit completely within the frame. <br /> We arranged to do the work on 08/19/15. The work took a couple hours. He removed a lock remnant from the previous owners from the door frame. He did say candidly that he was not a finish carpenter, so I had to fill the spot where the lock remnant had been with wood putty, and also fill the area on the frame where the bolt lock had been on the original door, but I was fine with that. I do some DIY work, but I know my limitations - installing an exterior door is one of them. When they were done, David and Seth moved the original door to my cellar per my request - I may reuse it in the future.  <br /> David and Seth came back the next morning after I had chance to paint the raw wood that was revealed by the trimming. They quickly reinstalled the weather stripping, and we settled up. The $125 price was a bargain - the fellow I know at Home Depot's door desk once told me that $500-600 is a normal price for slab door installation. I've lived with door for a month now, and it still moves and locks easily. It is very nice having more sunshine in my kitchen. I'll appreciate it even more when winter arrives and the kitchen is both warm and sunny.    <br /> David and his assistant Seth were friendly and down to earth, and I felt very comfortable with them in my house, and that's important too.  <br /> <br /> <br />"

"The contractor said that the paving should not be extended (added onto) and that to make it seamless, the entire area would need to be repaved. This was agreed to. They removed the patio bricks and paved that section and when they came to the end of the driveway, they ran out of tar and had to go some distance to get some more. Because this section was completed later, the Seam is not so seamless and definitely looks like an add on. However, my main complaint is that after having the driveway sealed by them, I am still having problems with major tire “scruffing” , after a 2 year period. When Mr. Cameron was called about this, he said that was very common and that the State regulations supported this and that he would bring documentation to that effect and come review the situation. After not hearing from him, I sent an email to the office, asking him to respond and also expressed concern about the paved patio area resulting in huge puddles because they did not add gravel, just redistributed the existing sand. I now get huge puddles and this will result in major ice buildup at the bottom of the stairway. Mr. Cameron did not respond to that email, nor a second one that was sent, in which I stated that if he did not respond to my concerns I intended to contact the Better Business Bureau. Apparently, he does not care about customer satisfaction, nor does he stand by the quality of his work."

"Steve Violette removed old asphalt and discovered they needed to remove close to two feet of clay. Clay was replaced with 2 feet of crushed stone and compacted. Three inches of asphalt was applied and compacted. Due to removal of additional clay and replaced with additional crushed stone the final cost was $900.00 above original estimate. The final cost was equal to the highest original bid for the driveway work."

"Richard Bushey, of HIP Service & Solutions, is an extremely friendly and knowledgeable individual.  He performed the home inspection (and sampled for the water test) for the home my husband and I bought.  He was very professional in his dealings with us, and was prompt for appointments and follow-up calls.  During the inspection he made sure that as he completed a section he would explain his findings, as well as let us know if he expected any issues found to be minor or expensive to correct.  He even offered suggestions regarding what path we might take to achieve those corrections.  He then gave us an opportunity to ask any questions we may have.  After the inspection, he made sure that he summarized all of his findings, and provided us with a very detailed report, complete with pictures of the findings.  He made sure to also let us know that he keeps those photos, and that anytime, even years away, we should feel free to call him and he would be happy to make sure we would receive any of those photos we wanted.  I highly recommend Richard Bushey, and HIP Service & Solutions. <br />"

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in West-boothbay-harbor, ME

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
