"Originally I was planning to only have the HVAC disconnect updated and the outside and inside receptacles repaired, but did not know which electric company to use. After searching Angie's List for a highly rated company, I chose RK Electric. Made a phone call to RK Electric and described work to Carol, and at her request, followed up with pictures of the old HVAC disconnect, outside receptacle, and inside breaker panel. Carol called back the next day and let me know the old breaker panel was a brand that was notorious for malfunctions and could start a house fire. I agreed to have it replaced and scheduled the work. RK Electric sent out two excellent technicians, Hardy and Uriel, in order to finish the work in one day at my request. (We have a special needs daughter we had to plan ahead for the time the electricity would be off. Carol, Hardy, and Uriel were all very understanding and put forth their best efforts to accommodate us.) Hardy called about 20 to 30 minutes ahead of arrival so we could be prepared. Hardy and Uriel arrived on time and were always pleasant and professional. They were also very patient to answer any of my questions. Uriel repaired the outside/inside receptacles, as well as, remounting the outside receptacle making it a solid mount; replaced the HVAC disconnect panel; installed the door bell and door bell button. Uriel cleaned up the mess and kindly reviewed his work to make sure we were satisfied. Hardy installed the inside breaker panel, and while doing this had to disassemble another breaker panel and a junction block on the opposite side of the wall in the garage. He went the extra mile to tight loose connections in the garage panel. The work took longer than expected due to extra work to align the garage panel feed with the inside breaker panels. Hardy worked until 8:30 PM to finish his excellent work. Once the panel work was completed he did a great job of cleaning up the mess. I will definitely hire RK Electric again and will recommend them to anyone looking for quality electrical work."

"Lucky for us Brandon was the first to respond. Turned out we needed a completely new electrical panel for our 1950's house to allow us to install a new range. He was informative, knowledgeable and spelled out options and time frame. Plus encouraged us to get bids (what company voluntarily does that?). It was a no brainer. On time, great communication, more than fair pricing, and complete confidence in the excellent work done. This company is the real deal. You can't do better."

"Murphy Family Electric is an awesome company with very competent technicians and reasonable rates. They make the whole process pretty straightforward. I had used them to get my Tesla charger in 2018 (Cost: $799 including material). I was so impressed with their work that when I had a complex electrical job - installing a new 120v outlet requiring a new wire from the circuit breaker - I did not get any quotes but just booked them. That job was done very professionally as well (Cost: $949). Fast forward to Mar 2025, my tesla charger had problems with over heating and intermittent power loss. I called Murphy Family Electric and they sent a technician the same day who came and adjusted/cleaned the connections and spent 30 mins fixing the problem. And to my surprise the company did not even charge me anything for this. So on top of everything else you can add absolutely fantastic customer service to their list of attributes."

"I had such a great experience with Adam. He took so much care to learn about the issue I was having and to investigate how my old (1980) house is wired so that he could find the most cost effective solution for me. Because he took the time to ask all the questions and understand the existing electrical in place, he was able to save me tons of money while also giving me peace of mind for the future life of my panel. I would highly recommend Adam to any homeowner having weird electrical issues."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in West Linn, OR

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
