"We were looking to refresh and update the look of our 21-year-old kitchen and master bathroom for resale but did not have the budget for replacing the cabinets. Our actual cabinets were still in great shape, but the outsides looked dated and had some problem areas. We opted for refacing, which puts a new surface on existing cabinets and replaces doors and hardware. We also replaced our laminate countertops with granite and under mount sinks. After comparing other companies, we chose Kitchen Tune-Up. We worked with Mark Levy, who directed and arranged the entire process. He explained the procedure step-by-step. We made our 50% down payment in mid May and our final payment in mid August. The entire process took a little longer than we expected. There was a point at which we believe we got “lost in the cracks.” Jim did the actual refacing and installing and his work was very professional. He took great care to satisfy us. He always made very efficient use of his time and cleaned up afterwards. In the process, we had to provide the new kitchen faucet, which we had already bought, and then choose the granite and sink from BBG in Newport News. We also drove out to Richmond to choose which granite slab we wanted. When the granite was being installed, only two people were sent. They were obviously struggling to maneuver 800 lbs. of granite into place. We did have to pay extra to have some sheetrock repaired after it was damaged by the granite installation in the bathroom. We also had two more cabinets refaced in other bathrooms. Anyway, both the kitchen and master bath look really great! They just look brighter, newer and definitely more up-to-date! We are very happy at how it all turned out!"

"Their methodology is very good. They use master carpenters. They're not just guys they just hired 2 weeks ago. The owner is an engineer and assesses the job before the work begins. He had some really good ideas that we incorporated. They put in new drawers and re-faced my kitchen cabinets. The product is good quality. They used Amish doors for the cabinets. I was very pleased with this. They built a wood frame around each cabinet and attached the new doors on that frame. They didn't just use the existing mount. This is very important for quality, longevity, and stability. It looks like a brand new state of the art kitchen. I would use Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc. again and recommend their service."

"Wes does an amazing job. We provided measurements for our new cabinet work. After stopping at his shop to look at samples, we decided on a piece he had in stock for the vanity. When we had the cabinets completed and installed, he came out with the vanity top ready to go. After taking final measurements for the kitchen counter, he ordered, mounted the undermount sink, delivered and installed all on schedule. Both products came out beautifully and fits like a glove! Very professional. Definitely recommend and would use again!"

"While the whole process took a long time, it went VERY well.  Greg is a consummate artist.  At the start he invited us to his workshop, and showed us around.  He also showed us the interior of his home which he had built most of over the years.  That is where we fell in love with the Cherry. <br /> Greg took the time to answer all of my wife's many questions.  He sketched out a proposed look for the pieces.  And once we came to an agreement, he got to work. <br /> When he had the initial boxes built, he invited us back to his workshop to show us how they were looking.  He also provided us with a stained piece of wood so that we could find the appropriate flooring that we were going to have installed in the office prior to the delivery of the furniture. <br /> There were some delays due to a number of issues, but Greg was always up front with us and kept us in the loop.  When the 2 cabinets were finally delivered, our contractor's team installed them and they looked fantastic.! <br /> The desk was the last piece to be delivered, and I am extremely happy with it! <br /> I highly recommend Greg Wheat for your cabinet making needs!  He does a pretty spiffy desk too! <br />"

"We live on a hill, with a set of steps to navigate the front yard, that end in a landing at the bottom. They were destroyed in an accident. Steve and his crew at SS Creative were the contractor I selected to repair the work. They did an excellent job matching the new construction to the old construction. Although I didn't expect it, they finished the job on Christmas Eve! I intend to call them for future projects. Excellent craftsmanship!"

"The actual work on the countertop surface and edges is fabulous. It looks as if it was that size and shape from the beginning. <br /> The work had to be rescheduled several times because of scheduling conflicts, sometimes at the last minute. I understood my job was very small, and therefore not as high a priority but rather than being done by Thanksgiving the counter barely made it back in before Christmas.  <br /> The only disappointment is that although He had agreed they would make a splash from the leftover material (and there was a lot of material removed), the men in the shop did not use the material efficiently in making the new edge but went with just an easy cut out of the removed material not leaving any for a splash (except a tiny 1" tall along part of it). That was a really big disappointment because this is against a wall with no overhead cabinets so running a tile splash will look really awkward. Unfortunately when they came to install was the first I learned they had changed the design so there was nothing to be done. <br />"

"The transformation of my garage is truly remarkable. It was nothing short of a medieval dungeon last month but you should see it now! Jeff's team handled the carpentry, electrical and the storage solutions and I could not be happier. If you need a garage makeover, call Potomac Garage Solutions. I enthusiastically recommend this company."

FAQs for cabinets reface projects in West Point, VA

Absolutely. Refacing returns 65% to 80% of your investment at resale, and you get an updated kitchen right now. Because you’re not paying for new boxes or demo work, the price lands well below complete replacement but still delivers a fresh, custom look that buyers—and you—notice every time you walk in.

To trim costs, start by pricing a high-quality paint or gel stain instead of full refacing—stain alone can be one-third the price of full refacing. Keep existing hinges and pulls if they’re in good shape, and shop sales for sandpaper, primer, and sealer. The sweat equity is real, but so are the savings, and a careful DIY job can still leave your cabinets looking sharp for years to come.

A professional crew needs only three to five days to reface a standard kitchen, although a larger layout or intricate door style may add one to two days. Compare that with the several weeks a full cabinet swap can drag on. In other words, you get your space back fast, often before the paint on the new doors is even fully cured.

Yes, you can replace just the cabinet doors and drawer fronts without covering the cabinet boxes. Cabinet refacing involves installing new doors and drawer fronts while applying veneers to existing cabinet boxes. If you’re satisfied with the condition of your cabinets, swapping doors and drawer fronts reduces labor and materials, saving you time and cost. Always consult a professional to confirm compatibility and ensure a seamless, high-quality finish.

Most cabinet refacing projects do not require removing countertops because professionals can access doors and drawers around existing surfaces. However, if your countertop overhang prevents full access to the cabinet boxes, contractors may need to lift the countertop to install veneers properly temporarily. Discuss this with your refacing specialist during the on-site estimate so you know exactly what the project entails.
