"When I called to set up the appointment I was walked through the process and was given an accurate and cost-saving estimate. This was Monday and I said I was having company on Friday They were able to come the next morning! The arrival time was set for 9am-noon, and I received a call around 9:10 that the two-man team was on their way from a neighboring town. The guys were very nice and professional. We walked thru the house and they took note of everything and asked questions about moving certain items. I'd removed all knick knacks from surfaces and put away floor items (baskets, floor lamps, small tables, humidifier, etc) before they arrived and they we happy about that. One man prepared the area to be cleaned while the second man followed behind with the extractor. They asked permission before hooking up to the outdoor faucet, and wore shoe protection while they worked. They suggested I wear a rubber soled shoe to walk on the damp carpet and warned me to be careful stepping off the carpet onto tile. Carpets look and smell fantastic! Great job!"

"<strong>These people are amazing!!</strong>  We did shop around  and found a carpet that we felt was going to be just great for the room. We brought a sample (from another store) with us to McCann's  and asked if they carried the same carpet. Jan said they did and also showed us a variety of other samples that may interest us. We kept going back to the original sample and asked for quotation. Jan gave us a ball park number based on a square yard figure we gave her. She then suggested that they come out and measure to give a firm number. They were very prompt  getting out to the house and in putting together the proposal.  <br />     We found that their price was considerably less then one store ,and less then the other store. We felt very comfortable working with Jan, Amy and the rest of the staff due to their patience, product knowledge and friendly "can Do" attitude. <br />     Here is the other " <strong>Amazing Part</strong>"...........The carpet( We picked out,) was installed and( through no fault on McCann's part) we both were not happy with the way it looked. But we thought,"it will grow on us" as we didn't think there would be any alternative.  <br />     I went in to pay for the carpet and Amy asked me how I liked it. I said we were not real happy with the way it looked. She said " we want you to love your carpet and to pick out something else. There was a 30 day satisfaction guarantee on the carpet from the Mfg'r., but also, she said they would handle the reinstallation and also move any furniture.  <br /> To the point: The new carpet is wonderful, the installer did a super job and went way beyond as well, in moving furniture back in place. If you need new floor coverings, check out other stores if you must, but visit McCann flooring. I know you won't go wrong . <br /> Thank you Amy, Jan and staff <br /> <br /> Richard and Sharon "

"I never priced out this job, but we liked the showroom experience. The price did seem a bit high, but then we thought about how much work really was involved. It was a 3 day job. <br /> We had a bad experience about 7 years ago with flooring, done through the Home Depot. The installers of both the Pergo in our kitchen and tile in our front entryway just had no clue what they were doing. The transition between the tile and our living room carpet was so bad it took 2 different repairmen to get it, well, if not really "right", at least presentable. <br /> We really liked the atmosphere in the showroom. "John" is who we dealt with at the showroom and also in emails back and forth, really knowledgeable guy. There was never any pressure to buy but he seemed close at hand if we needed help or had questions. So there was a fine line between helping us and also giving us some space, just perfect. <br /> Ron, the House of Carpets owner came out to take measurements and work up a quote. Again very personable and knowledgeable and made a few suggestions. We had a lot of options on what we could do ourselves and what we wanted them to do. My wife and I discussed the estimate for about a week before we decided to accept. Almost everyrthing was done by them, only exception is the new wooden trim we would need, we decided to get that and stain it ourselves. (House of Carpets does seem to cater to the DIY crowd, we were glad to have options on what we could do or have them do). <br /> As I mentioned this was a 3 day job. The first day was for removal of the old Pergo in the dining/kitchen area and also the ceramic tile in our entryway/closet. 2nd day was installation of vinyl in these same 2 areas. 3rd day was carpet installation. <br /> House of Carpets advertises that they use several experienced installers. The one assigned to our job was "Engle's Flooring For You" from nearby Footville, WI. I was happy with the demeanor and professionalism of Thad Engle and his partner Don. I could tell they were worlds apart from the crew from Home Depot 7 years ago. These guys obviously KNEW what they were doing. Thad said he has 20 years experience and it showed. The installation and trim work were great. We wanted no-molding transitions between the vinyl and carpet and they did this very well, just what we wanted. They also went an extra step and removed a transition molding from the carpet to a bathroom floor, and hadn't even thought of asking for that! Thad also suggested a change to how the carpet was laid on the stairs. They used to just sort of "waterfall" from one step to the other and he suggested having the carpet form tightly to each stair, so it folowed the contour of each step. Results are night and day difference in the appearance of the stairs, very classy. <br /> Yes it was alot of money but we think the results were worth it. <br />"

"Just for convenience, I  have usually made my flooring purchases from the big orange box store.  Increasingly, I have found fewer options and sometimes an un-staffed floor covering department. I decided to check out buying local and was surprised by the pricing (very similar to the big guys) was was very pleased with the service and speed of installation.  I'll certainly use Stands again and will think twice when assuming that big home centers always have the best price."

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Whitewater, WI

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
