"The Electrician was very good, didn't install the replacement fan as he indicated that the ceiling in my guest bath would need to come down (a portion of it anyway) and he didn't think the new fan would make a difference in the noise. Said that bathrooms on the 1st level/main level of multi story homes are often noisy due to poor installation and some other issues.
He did fix a plug - and review the electrical panel.

Small jobs welcome

"Kevin , our electrician was efficient and very pleasant completing our project. We were given an estimate a week ago, completed job promptly, and beat the price from the estimate. I would be glad to refer him for further electrical work. The job was explained to us and we had a complete electrical panel with breakers replaced and each breaker was labeled with function for ease of knowing what appliance / service was associated with each switch. Thank you Jim and Liz"

"I hired Derek and his colleague to wire up our new hot tub. He was excellent at communicating and providing an estimate before work was started. The quality of work he provided exceeded my expectations. Everything was done neatly, to code, and did not leave a mess at my house. A sprinkler line was damaged during trenching, since we didn't know it was there, and he made the repairs with no questions asked. I would definitely hire him or recommend for electrical work. A+"

"We selected David and his team over 4 other electrical firms for his comprehensive bid, service and price. It was a complex job including a new box for a nex kitchen bath laundry living and bedroom. He came up with a great non invasive plan that laid the lines without disrupting current service at a cost that saved thousands. We then expanded the job to include fans and track lighting. He fixed all of the code issues with our old system. He and his team was on time responsive honest and competent. Would recommend I conditionally"

"Writer is a true professional and electrical guru. He arrived within the allotted time frame, got right to work and quickly identified the problem. He even welcomed me to watch him while he worked as he explained the intricacies of the electrical outlet (which was a GFCI multi-branched oulet, connected to other garage and bathroom outlets). It was clear he knew what he was doing. I would recommend him for any electrical problem or fresh installation, and plan to hire him in the future for other electrical projects I have around my house."

"Went fine. I stepped in to assist a widow with the situation in her home. During the hot stretch in late July, the new A/C wouldn't work and the A/C contractor identified the need for repair/replacement of the "circuit breaker" feeding the A/C, which was actually one of the old screw-in fuse panels. I looked in Angie's List for an electrician, and Tim Lambert of "Current Electrical" phoned me right away. Tim sent his crew member out to scope out the job, and provided a verbal quote which homeowner and I accepted. Job was done the next day. The building inspector found some small concerns with the original construction, and Tim fixed them. As a result, the final price was higher than the original quote, but work was added. Tim and I discussed the changes, and the result is the homeowner, Tim, and I are happy with the result. The layout of the wires into the new service panel is neat and orderly, Tim's crew was polite and cleaned up when they were done, and were respectful that they were in someone else's home. General Comment: It's always better to have a good scope of work and a written quote before hiring a contractor, but the semi-emergency to restore the A/C didn't let that happen. Tim got the work done, I understand the cost changes, the work passed the inspector, and all is good. I would hire Tim's company in the future."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Whitmore Lake, MI

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
