"Their rep was extremely helpful in selecting a color and figuring out the best width of carpet to minimize seams that might trip one of our little kids. The only problem was that their rep had said the installers would glue the wooden strips to our concrete basement floor. The installers showed up and started hammering them into our concrete basement floor, which is not ideal. Apparently gluing the wooden strips requires doing the glue requires coming one day, and then coming another day to actually put down the carpet. Hopefully the nails in the concrete floor won't cause moisture problems... Otherwise they were great; the result looks great."

"Great, couldn't have been happier! Timely, flexible, polite, responsive, at a very competitive price. We were prepared to pay up to $350 for Kilz treatment before installation of the new carpet, but they didn't use a lot, so they didn't charge us at all"

"Jacks Tile and carpet has installed carpet and new tile in our house on two separate occasions. Rosanne was very kind and helped us pick out exactly what we wanted in the showroom. The installer did a wonderful job and were very professional. We will use them again for all of our future flooring needs!"

"After I visited the store and spoke with an associate, we scheduled a date for measurements very quickly. My carpet was installed a week later and I was 100% satisfied! Would definitely work with CarpetOne again for carpet needs."

"We were very pleased with Dominion Carpets. Joey came to our house several times to help determine what needed to be done and he provided fair and detailed cost estimates. Due to personal reasons we had to reschedule the week-long job; Dominion made this happen with little effort. Three separate teams came out to do the work; each did a fantastic job.  The hardwood floors in the house look great. <br />"

FAQs for carpet installation projects in Winchester, VA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
