"North Central Plumbing gets my highest recommendation. Business owner Todd, and his son Josh were punctual, polite, professional, and highly experienced plumbers. I'm very pleased with the water softener installation they provided. I will call them in the future with any other plumbing need I might have."

"I have very mixed feelings about this firm;  I indicated I would use them again because in the end they did exceptional work and completed the work in an extremely efficient and timely manner.  I am very pleased with the actual work that was done and the faucets are wonderful.   Having said that,  I can't say the same for the overall experience - particularly with regard to  customer service issues that occurred prior to the actual call.   I set up this call 4 days ahead of time as I had one day open and needed to set up some other things around the plumbing call -- but that was my priority.   The person I spoke with told me they would call me back that afternoon with a time for the day I requested however nobody called.   I left two additional voicemails over the next 24 hours and finally got a call back telling me that the plumber would arrive between 11:00 and 12:00 on my requested day.  I was also told that someone would call me for more details on the actual work, however that never happened.  When the day came,  12:00 came and went with no plumber and no phone call.  Plumber finally arrived a bit after 12:30. A half an hour late is not a big deal but because I experienced such a lack of response from them initially I was pretty convinced that no one was going to show up at all.   My suggestion would be that Duda either expand the window for calls...or make a quick phone call when there is going to be a delay.  I believe pretty much everyone has access to mobile phones - shouldn't be a big deal."

"Since the shut-off value wasn't working by the toilet, I had to shut off the main line.  So I was without water the night before and during the day until the toilet got fixed. After leaving a message at another plumber the night before, I waited 2 hours in the morning to hear from them.  Since I did not hear from them by 10:00 <br /> After leaving a message at another plumber and not hearing from them for 2 hours, I called Rite-way.  I was very happy to have someone answer the phone.  After explaining my situation they said someone could be to my house that day sometime.  They explained the plumbers have fully stocked trucks so will be able to fix my toilet. <br /> Once he  arrived I received the estimates to fix the toilet or replace the whole thing.  I chose to replace the toilet.  It was great that he had toilets in the truck, water efficienct ones.  The toilet  and the shut-off value we replaced. <br /> I'm totally happy with the new toilet.  I would use them again. <br />"

"We had loss of suction in our central vac system. Our home warranty company had no one in their network to service the system and so, we were tasked with locating our own repair service provider. I found Johnston's on Angie'sList. I called on Monday morning and explained the situation, including the request of the home warranty company to speak with a service provider before any work was done. <br /> The repairs were completed Wednesday evening (he kindly worked around our work schedule). Jeff was courteous, professional and, knowledgeable. He replaced a section of pipe that was too short, restoring our loss of suction. I think it might actually be BETTER than before it broke! <br /> Jeff was more than happy to speak to our home warranty company, unfortunately, they kept him on hold for over an hour!! <br /> Thank you for your flexibility, courtesy, professionalism and dedication to getting the work done, Jeff! <br />"

"Very prompt response to my initial contact. Out the first available next day, called while in transit, and arrived promptly. Immediately diagnosed problem, suggested solution and secured replacement parts and installed very professionally. Good followup next day. Jim and his son Tyler work together on repairs. One worked while the other ran out for specific parts."

"I spoke with Jim on the phone and he was very informative and friendly. He was able to send (Evan?), out the same day to take a look. Evan was able to determine very quickly the plumbing to the sink was satisfactory and the issue was more than likely the faucet. He offered to take a look at for me but I said I could take it from there. He gave me a few quick tips, such as cleaning/replacing the regulator. Unfortunately, the $5 fix didn't work but I was able to determine the water pressure to the faucet head was satisfactory. I will need to replace the faucet itself. He did not charge me for the trip out. Excellent customer service!"

"Walt and technician arrived promptly. We looked at a couple of install site options. Install took most of the day. After radon test, post mitigation, house is at 2.8 and they are coming back out to add a stronger fan to the system. After that, we will do another test. Walt was very concise about system, very professional. This company was not the least expensive. I used Angie's List to locate three companies for estimates."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Winthrop, MN

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
