"Expensive $11.5K to put in a shower in place of a tub, done in one day. Asked for brushed nickel, but got chrome everything. Asked for 2 shelves but just got 1 which they say is standard. They came back next day with 2nd shelf insisting I did not order. I do not know how a family can get by with 1 little shelf for shampoos and soaps, or why one would be standard. They left wall unfinished and floor untrimmed. Minimal retrofit. It works. Plastic and chrome, but works for now. My other retrofit tub with 6 shelves cost $1750 installed labor + materials, 1/10th the price."

"The crew came early and worked into the evening to get the work done for the tankless water heater, gas lines for outdoor grill and gas dryer and water lines to garage for outdoor sink. The crew members work well together and their problem solving is excellent. They have been out 4 times to complete these projects."

"Overall, it went okay. After initial consultation, we decided to only go with water softener. After softener was installed, they discovered that ALL the water would be softened. Normally, kitchen water and outdoor faucets are by passed. After further discussions, we decided to have them install a reverse osmosis system for the kitchen water. The actual installations went well (and I would rate them an 'A' for that). I rate them as a 'B' instead of an 'A' overall because they did not provide any sort of discount for the second visit / installation."

"They replaced the water supply connector, but didn’t bother to run the dishwasher when done to verify the repair. Turned out there was a hole in the bottom of the pan/tub, and the dishwasher needed to be replaced. I did that installation myself."

"We have a 1958 ranch and the only bathroom had never been renovated. We wanted to start from scratch down to the studs for a 5’ x 8’ footprint. Sales person was very helpful, patient, and knowledgeable in selecting the various components and colors for the bathroom. The contract was very clear and detailed. Payment expectations were 1/3 upfront, 1/3 at the start of the project, and 1/3 at completion. The shower install was completed by Bath Works, which had a 12 month same as cash financing for the shower portion only. HWC coordinated and selected the various trades involved, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, flooring, shower install, and painting. The start of the project was pushed back several times, but communication was good. The actual work process was expertly done. The workmen were respectful, cleaned up each day, and were highly skilled. My wife and I are so satisfied with the end result. It is like going to the spa everyday. We intend to renovate the kitchen and basement down the road, and will definitely be turning to HWC in the future."

"Bill provided me with a quote and stuck to it. He showed up on time and did the work quickly and efficiently with a minimal amount of disruption to our routine. He made sure to explain what he did and answered any questions. The system has been in operation for 1 year now, and is running great. This is probably the 4th time I've hired Bill and he is my go-to guy for anything HVAC. He also advised us on how to tackle adding HVAC to a room that is currently unfinished (a through the wall based split system). I really appreciate All Weather Mechanical. Good, reliable no nonsense service."

"The work was done competently. However, when we called for an estimate, we were told they wouldn't give an estimate but it was $100/hr. We figured about 3-4 hours at most. Two plumbers showed up, and I can understand why some tasks just go faster with two people working together. They were at our house 3.5 hours. When they billed us for 6 hours I was floored! As it turned out, they charged us for their travel time to and from our place, and charged us per worker. (Google maps shows Frook as a 10 minute drive but they called it 20 minutes.) They had not explained that on the phone, and it's hard to imagine that the job would have taken 6 hours (2 hours per faucet!) if it had been only one person. They did have to replace the shut-off valves (unexpected) and that required some parts; I was fine with paying for those parts. But a bill of $750 for 3 faucets seemed really excessive and a surprise. I asked for a time estimate when they arrived and they wouldn't provide it because we had bought the faucets ourselves rather than from Frook. Again I can understand that if we had bought weird, hard to install faucets they didn't want to promise that it would go quickly - odd faucet design might take longer. Yet these were apparently pretty regular faucets that they said they had no problems with. Overall, I felt a little like they figured we were wealthy and could easily afford this so they padded the bill. We are not wealthy."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Woodland, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
