"I recently had a crack in my acrylic bathtub and called TriState Home Services to replace the tub. We decided to replace it with the same soaking tub to avoid any unnecessary damage to the ceramic tile we put in a few years ago. Bryan, the plumbing specialist at TriState did just that! He did an awesome job on this project. I also want to say how impressed I was with their customer service department, particularly with Megan, in her quick response to my emails along with making me feel so comfortable throughout the whole job."

"The pipe connected to the shower head in the master bath corroded which created a leak, and then broke off. As a result, we contacted 24/7 plumbing to see what would be needed to fix the issue. Their plumber came out to the house and stated that the pipe looked like it was galvanized, and if so could not be fixed. He then stated in order to find our for sure he needed to go through the wall directly behind the shower and also go through the wall on the side of the shower to make sure he could see the pipe. We then asked him who would be able to repair the wall and he stated that their plumbers are advised "to destroy what is necessary to fix the problem" and that they would not fix the walls after going through the dry wall. We then asked the plumber, but what if it's galvanized as you stated before? He sated that they would not be able to fix it again. We decided not to let him knock down 2 walls to access the pipe knowing that if it was galvanized he could not fix it. We would then be left with damaged walls to fix and still no use of the shower. We got a second opinion from Putnam Plumbing and they came out the next day. The plumber Patrick reached into the wall where the pipe was corroded with long pliers, took out the old thread that broke off and then reconnected the pipe which is galvanized to the shower head fixing the shower. He then advised us about the acidity of the water which would have caused the corrosion and options for how to take care of it in the future. The whole visit took 15 minutes. Lesson learned. Never using 24/7 ever again and always turning to Putman for any plumbing related issues."

"Our shower valve (Delta faucet) had been leaking for weeks, and we finally decided to get it fixed after I couldn't get the valve assembly apart myself without causing damage. I'd seen YouTube videos on doing this, and some people had done major damage to pipes when trying to extricate these parts with brute force. We called Art one evening because he's local and because of a couple of good reviews. He scheduled us for the next day. On that visit, he encountered the same problem I did. 30+ years or scale left that lock ring (or whatever they call it) hopelessly stuck even after a half hour of work, so he cut the wallboard behind the shower. His cuts were careful and neat, but the builders had put studs right behind the valve! Ugh! This called for a bit more cutting. Not his fault, this stupid house design!! We decided that since he's in the back there anyway, we'd just get the whole shower valve/etc. replaced with a new Moen. Not the cheapest, and half the total cost (or a bit more) was for this new item, but it's a nice unit. This wasn't something he carries around, and he needed a Sawz-all for further work anyway, so he was in and out in only about an hour that day. He came back right on time the next day with the new shower parts, and that took about another hour. He caulked up the overflow drain properly as well, which had been poorly installed years ago. He actually did less cutting of wallboard than I expected, so we're happy about that. Obviously, we'd have rather had just a quick and cheap washer replacement, but when it turned out to be impossible, he did a good job for us: Prompt, on time, friendly. I'd be more than happy to have him back here again to do whatever other plumbing work we need done."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Woodsboro, MD

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
