"Attention to detail was top priority. He took the time to ensure that every aspect of the job was done to perfection. There is no one else that I would use for my staircase and stair needs. He will be doing my next set of stairs and I know that they will be a true masterpiece."

"Mr. Handyman of Canton and Woodstock has provided me with literally thousands of dollars of work over the last couple of months, ranging from cabinet building/repairing, painting, plumbing (removing and installing new vanities in bathrooms), drywall repair, installing new light fixtures, carpentry work (cutting and installing wainscoting/judges panels), and even installing suspended storage racks in my garage. The quality of their work is outstanding, with the form, fit and finish at the highest level. For that reason, I keep going back to them over and over again to complete my next list of "honey-do" projects. I am particularly impressed with Rick Grooms, whose skills and experience across all the "trades" are at the craftsman level. Moreover, Rick is a pleasure to work with in that he has a very pleasant and warm personality, a professional attitude, and a customer-focused desire to please his clients. I would very strongly recommend Mr. Handyman of Canton and Woodstock!"

"I needed someone to do some work on my small trailer and Brad was the man. He cut and removed the old metal mesh and installed wooden boards. Very happy with the end result and he got the job done in a few hours."

"This week we hired Taylor’d Services to install 2 decorative wood beams in our new home in Woodstock on our main bedroom 12 foot high vaulted ceiling. From the time we met Cody we connected with his pleasantry and knowledge of doing contracting services. He accepted our job graciously and he won us over instantly with his genuine and pleasant personality. Our job was scheduled quickly and finished in one day. The end product was exactly what my wife and I envisioned: 2 beautifully stained pine wood beams, complimenting the vaulted ceiling. Definitely a WOW feature when walking into the bedroom. Cody’s crew worked efficiently, preparing the house for this project by lining the floors and building blocks in the attic rafters to insure that the beams would hang securely. They definitely knew what they were doing. At the end, the clean up went well too. We highly recommend Taylor’d Services and will not hesitate to use them again in the future."

"This is the second time I've used their services and it was exactly like the first- exceptional. I paid for a full days work and received a discount for using them a second time. I received the estimate on the 25th and they were able to come on the 26th.
This company is very good at taking down tough trees without bringing in cranes, etc. and cleaning up after the fact. There was probably 3 inches of sawdust on everything right after the trees came down; and once they finished up, you didn't see but a speck of sawdust. I'll definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

"We called Wildlife Evictors based on a friend's recommendation and were not disappointed. There were multiple raccoons driving us crazy making noise in the soffit area on the back of our house. Shinyan came over, found the entry point and installed an exit door, but some of the raccoons wouldn't leave after mangling the exit door. I suggested he install the exit door where the vent is located, so Shinyan installed the exit door there, and they left shortly thereafter. After we were assured they were definitely gone, Shinyan came back and reinstalled the vent. He repairs the house entry points with metal and paints over the metal to blend in with the house. He is punctual and followed up so I didn't have to call him to come back. We were impressed."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Woodstock, GA

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
