"This pro provided useful information via a virtual (online) video consultation. Since this service does not send technicians to the home, they did not do the actual work. I am considering whether to order parts and try to complete the repair myself or under their virtual direction."

"I have Rescue Link's Single PC Pack which is an extended warranty for my laptop and also has unlimited tech support. I use the tech support every month to run a PC tune up and it doesn't cost me any sort of fee or deductible beyond what my monthly charge is. My laptop is three years old and I purchased this warranty earlier this year. I recently spilled a soda on my laptop and called to file a claim. This warranty covers accidental damage for laptops and tablets so I was able to call to file a claim. They answered the phone and asked a few questions like: what is the serial number of the laptop, what operating system do you use and about how much did you pay for the laptop. After answering these questions, they told me that my claim was approved and that I would receive a postage paid box within two business days. I received the box with the materials required to safely ship my laptop. It was actually kind of funny because they even provided a premeasured length of tape to close the box. I filled out the paper asking for my password (so that they can get into the computer to make sure that the repairs were completed) and took the box to the UPS drop off site. Two days later I got a call stating that they received the box and would start repairs. Three days after that, they called me and told me that they had everything except the keyboard fixed and were just waiting on the new keyboard. Two days later, I was told that they had the keyboard and would be shipping me my repaired computer and I should receive it in two to three business days. All said, it only took seven days from the time that they received my computer for me to get it back. They even cleaned it. I am very happy with this service.
"

"Tuesday night, our dishwasher quite working = wouldn't start. Wednesday morning, I went online to the "Factory" web site and scheduled an appointment. The earliest appointment they had was a week out. There was nothing in Angie's list for this area, so I took a chance and called Mike, the closest to us. He came out that afternoon, checked things out and thought the motor was bad. He had to order a motor, but went ahead and scheduled a time for us on Friday afternoon.
Friday, he showed up right on time with motor in hand. That's when the "fun" started. When he started to take the dishwasher out, he discovered that the electrical connection ran trhough a junction box, without enough length on the cable to pull the dishwasher all the way out. Rather than "down tools" and give up, he asked me to pull the power and proceeded to disconnect the cables from the junction box.
He pulled the dishwasher and removed the motor. He spun the motor and said "I don't think this is bad, the shaft wouldn't spin whille it was in the washer". He took a closer look and discovered a small shard of glass (the witdh of a pencil lead) had jammed in the side of the food grinder, where it was invisible until he had the whole motor housing disassembled. He removed that piece of glass, reassembled everything, reconnected the dishwasher (3 wire nuts in the junction box), and tested - it filled and ran, but was noisy.
After another round of disassembly/assembly (and removing the food grinder), he discovered the grinder was slightly bent. Fortunately, he had that part, replaced it, assembled/reconnected things again, and it functioned "like new".
Throuhout the whole ordeal (over an hour), Mike was courteous, cheerful and informative. And, at the end of it all, he charged us his base rate plus the parts. He could have easily charged us for additional labor, or even replaced the motor and we would not have known the difference.
If we ever have another appliance issue, Mike will get the call!

"

FAQs for fridge, freezer or ice maker repair or service projects in Yakima, WA

Most ice makers are similar in design, and some parts are interchangeable. However, if your ice maker has advanced filters or special features, it's best to use the same make and model to ensure everything works properly. Ask your appliance repair pro to check your appliance specifications to be sure.

With regular use and proper maintenance, an ice maker typically lasts about four to five years. If you keep up with tasks like changing the filters every six months, you might get up to 10 years out of your ice maker. Address any problems with your ice maker right away by calling an appliance professional to ensure you solve any issues before they escalate, helping to keep your ice maker running smoothly for longer.

Your refrigerator's age plays a big role in deciding whether to repair or replace the ice maker. If your fridge is nearing the end of its average 14-year lifespan, it might not be worth investing in expensive repairs since other parts could fail soon. Getting a diagnosis from a refrigerator repair pro can help you decide what's best.
