"have used Pettigrew Plumbing and Heating in the three homes I have owned in Portsmouth NH. Some jobs were constructing a new bathroom, remodeling an old one, installing a washer dryer set, moving a hot water heater, and installing a new HVAC system. The owner, John Pettigrew, and his skilled employees, are alway professional, know their trade, show up on schedule, work neat and clean, and are courteous and willing to answer questions. I would highly reccomend Pettigrew plumbing."

"I don't give 5/5 stars on a review often, but I was extremely impressed with the work LR Higgins did on a water damage project on my house and would not hesitate to hire them again. Dean was our project manager and did an excellent job. We had damage internally from water that had seeped behind our siding which resulted in deck rot (because flashing wasn't previously applied correctly) and internal wall damage in the basement. The 3-man team that worked on the project was detail-oriented and focused on doing the job "right" rather than doing it quickly (which I greatly appreciated) but also did their best to make the exterior work blend and match the rest of the siding so it would not stand out like a sore thumb. The cost was reasonable for the work done and I felt like the work was high quality. I had unsuccessfully contacted 3 other companies for estimates before contacting LR Higgins and either wouldn't get my calls returned or they didn't show up for the estimate. Eric Higgins was very responsive via email, called me back after I left my first message about the issue, and I was in contact with him via email several times during the project. He always responded. I would definitely recommend this contractor group and use them again for work on my house."

"Absolutely fantastic. When I originally called, I was told that they wouldn't be able to come out for a few weeks due to their heavy workload. I described the job and asked that they call me if anything became available sooner as I had someone coming to install the heating stove in a week. Soon after, I received a call that they would be able to help and could come out the next day. I wasn't able to be there for the work, so I left the key and a note with instructions. They completed the job perfectly and I would never have known that they were there except for the new gas connection exactly where I had asked them to place it. Several days later someone from Martel came by in person to be sure that I was happy with the work and to answer any questions that may have come up. Based on this experience, they are now my go-to for all of my plumbing needs. <br />"

"The bathroom leak was complicated, and since it was unclear where the leak from the shower was, a panel had to be cut under the shower and the side of the shower accessed through attic space. The team make one visit for reconnaisance and one for the actual work. Both were scheduled and were timely. The shower leak was due to many factors that were identified and corrected. The kitchen sink needed a faucet replacement. Stephen gave exact details of which faucet to buy and why to avoid the cheap ones. I bought one from a kitchen supply store that was installed within an hour. They cleaned up after the work was done and were very professional. I would use them again in the future. <br />"

"Service provider / driver (I forget his first name - sorry) was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the pumping of the septic tank and the reason for my drains backing up.  I will definitely use Sebastian Septic again.  He also had a squeaky clean truck AND enough hose that he didn't have to back up over my lawn and leave behind divots from his truck.  Great experience."

"Dave came highly recommended from a friend in the plumbing business. Dave and his partner showed up, had the problem diagnosed within minutes (clogged main sewer line), explained to me the process, and got to work. 40 minutes later the problem was fixed and we were both on our way. He fixed another issue with the toilet for free, and even helped explain to my tenants the issue and what they could do to keep it from happening again. He was personable and professional, price was reasonable, I will be using him again."

"Jeff and his employee Ralph were always on time showing up for work every morning, clean up after themselves and took care of the debris left from the job. The work went slow because of the inspectors schedule but the contractor was very detail on everything, he found a few problems inside the walls of the shower and he fixed them very good. For the extra work that I asked to have done in the attic and the outside of the house was very well done."

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in York, ME

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
