"When I first contacted BR Hendrix Plumbing to replace my hot water heater I was thinking about installing a tankless hot water system.  He was very knowledgeable about the products and the pros and cons of a tankless hot water system.  After our discussion, I was thoroughly impressed with his knowledge and neutral position on whether to go with a hot water tank or tankless system.  But with the information he gave me I was able to make an informed and confident decision to go with a replacement hot water heater tank. <br /> BR Hendrix arrived and replaced the hot water heater.  They knew exactly what to do and they did it quickly and efficiently.  The existing hot water heater was located in an awkward location that was very inefficient and took up more space than necessary.  BR Hendrix re-worked the plumbing to allow the new heater to be re-located in a better location that didn't take up as much space.  We were very happy with every aspect of the project and would definitely use BR Hendrix for any future plumbing needs we have.  And I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else who needed a plumber. <br /> .I have no problems with my hot water tank or system since it was installed in April.  It is now December and I am thoroughly happy with our decision to have BR Hendrix Plumbing install our new hot water tank. <br />"

"Found Wayne on Angie's List, called at about 7am.  Wayne immediately answered.  He asked a few quick over-the-phone questions to rule out simpler fixes and was at my house in a few hours (after a previously-scheduled appointment).  He was quick to diagnose the problem and the well pump was removed and a new one installed very quickly.  He was personable, professional and definitely knows his stuff.  It's obvious he has a lot of experience in his trade.  The price was reasonable and we had water service restored to the house quickly, despite light rain, cold and already having snow on the ground from a storm a few weeks ago (with an impending 8-10" coming tonight into tomorrow!) <br /> I have a few other plumbing issues I'd like to fix and will definitely be calling Wayne in the future.  I HIGHLY recommend him. <br />"

"<p>Jimmy was able to come out to my home quickly. Because we were both out in the same area, he made sure to call me before he left so I could leave work and head home to meet him. He arrived with his son and another helper. All of them were so pleasant, courteous and good natured. They evaluated every option and it was decided I needed a different kind of valve which would allow the water pressure to be full. The icemaker and water dispenser were hardly producing at all and I'd already had an appliance repair person look at the refrigerator. They had to run to the store to get the valve and the whole thing was fixed within 2 hours.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>I would highly recommend using this service if you need any plumbing done. Price was fair and competitive and they knew what they were doing!</p> <br />"

"We had a leak under our sink, so we called Atkisson again as they did an outstanding job the first time we used them. As it turned out, the garbage disposal was rusted out and needed replacing. The repair was done quickly and at a reasonable price. But this time there was a problem with the repair that required additional action. I found out that with Atkisson problems are no problem. Bob immediately responded to our concerns, and made it right. To me, this is almost as important as the quality of the work: the willingness to stand behind it. Bob has shown me that he is a man of great integrity, and he will probably be my plumber for life now. I would highly recommend him and Atkisson Plumbing to anyone needing those services."

"We were suddenly getting water with gunk back into our basement shower one evening. Ken, who had worked with the plumbing in our basement bathroom when we remodeled two years ago, promptly came out the next day to clear out the pipe in the shower and also from the toilet out to the septic.  Later in the evening a leak occured in the seal of the toilet and we had to have him out the next day to re-seal the toilet. He also spent time to show me how backed up my septic was and that I would need to have the tank cleaned out as well.  <br /> Ken is very personable and thorough.  Each time out he has left the job area neat and thoruoghly clean.  We will continue to call on him whenever we have plumbing needs! <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Abingdon, MD

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
