"He inspected the chimney and advised it didn't need cleaning just a good fire with dry wood to clear the cobwebs. Pointed out would need bricks on roof tuck pointed and sealed but we could wait a while. I took his advice and fireplace works great. Will definitely hire again."

"This was two years ago, so things may have changed, but in the last two years since then, calls have gone either unanswered or returned much later. Next available openings are usually 2 months out. <br /> The last time they actually came to the house, I took off work to be at home for the cleaning. They showed up 1.5 hours late with no call letting me know. When I mentioned that I was expecting them an hour and a half ago, the response was something to the effect of and quot; That's the way it isand quot;. <br /> While I won't use them again, they did a good job and did protect the fireside room with tarps. <br /> The catalyst for writing was my recent call to another Salem service. The gentleman answered, said he was indisposed (on the roof) and that he'd call back in 1/2 and hour. In 1/2 an hour, he called back, and we scheduled an appointment for the next week. He adjusted his schedule to accommodate mine. <br />"

"Nate is fantastic! I have had previous companies do vent cleaning but none came close to how thorough he was. Our 40 year-old home had never had the vents cleaned and they were all filthy. Nate spent almost 6 hours cleaning them all out from the furnace first and then from each floor register vent. He then spent two hours assisting with our fireplace, converting it from wood-burning to an electric insert. He is very through, efficient, friendly, and excellent with creative solutions. Plus, unlike most contractors, someone always answers the phone immediately."

"Home Fire Stove was excellent in service and installation. The entire process went smoothly, professionally, on budget, and the installation staff even finished getting my woodstove in and ready for use in less than the estimated 5 hours I was quoted. Store personnel were readily available for any questions I had and responded quickly and cheerfully. A+ all the way!"

"I called to make an appointment for my gas log system to be serviced in late December, following an ice storm and prolonged power outage (4 days for us), and after calling around to other companies, Jim was the one who could come out soonest, though it was still three weeks out. This was unfortunate but understandable given the sudden demand of the local economy for alternative heat sources. Jim arrived right on time for the appointment and got to work right away. He thoroughly inspected the chimney, damper, and gas log system and turned it on, to make sure it worked. He noticed that the flames were very uneven, so he turned it off and rearranged the logs for a beautiful and even burn. He walked me through several options about how I could optimize my heat output from a gas fireplace if I were interested in upgrading, which I wasn't. He also educated me on how to safely use the system and options for keeping the cats and my about-to-be-crawling infant daughter from playing in there with the vermiculite. After I expressed that this, at least in the short-term, would only ever be a source of emergency heat, he made sure to drive home safety precautions to take since there is no safety spacer installed on the damper (which will also conserve energy by eliminating drafts). Jim did an excellent job and shared a lot of excellent information and options about what I can/should do to maximize heat, minimize drafts, and keep myself and family safe. The only critical thing I can say about his visit was that when he turned on the fireplace before he rearranged the logs, one of the logs got quite hot on one edge. Perhaps out of concern for the tile surround (not wanting to risk cracking/chipping it) he placed the logs on his plastic tarp that was laid out over the carpet. When he went to grab one of the logs, we notice that it had melted through the tarp, but, thankfully, appeared not to have noticeably damaged the carpet. Obviously, nothing happened to the carpet, but I think we can both chalk it up to a good learning experience."

"Bottom line was the process and experience was good; bid price was horrible. Lamont Bros, who I've worked with before a couple years ago, were again prompt and professional. I know they do impeccable work which is why I contacted them. Both Daniel and Joseph were personable, professional and informative. They spent appropriate time surveying the chimney and attic, taking measurements, and explaining options and process. It was enjoyable. They asked what I wanted to budget [as low as possible! :)] and I said $20-25k knowing it was very low but with a budget in my head of about $35K to $40k. They said 20-25k wasn't really reasonable and said just a bathroom generally runs about 20K (which I've also heard from numerous contractors and friends who have had the work done) and that what we were talking about would probably be around 40K, depending on finishes. So I was expecting something in that ballpark. Instead, the bid was $90k to $115k. More than twice what was discussed and what I had budgeted in my head. I am friends with architects and engineers. my family knows contractors. I work for the City of Portland and discuss remodels, new houses, and other construction projects all day long. Some of our good friends just had a top tier contractor do a large remodel that included removing the wall between dining room and kitchen in a classic foursquare house, installing new support beams, putting in new high end hardwood floors on first floor (1000sf), remodeling and reconfiguring first floor bathroom in order to install a new exterior door from kitchen to back of house and building a second story deck that door opened out onto that deck - all for approximately $50k. All this to say the bid was extremely high. I get that our housing market is crazy and the cost of construction is expensive and increasing. Contractors have their choice of jobs and as such can price accordingly. And sure, there is an opportunity cost to taking on a specific job over others. But a bid of $90k-$115K seems like price gouging and taking extreme advantage of the current construction climate. I can only take it as a way of saying they'd rather do other, larger jobs for wealthy clients who don't have concerns about costs."

"Very well. I first contacted this company to address a roof leak on my personal residence several years ago. Since then, I have hired them to do roof replacements on at least four rental properties and they have done other roof repairs, revisions, or cleanings on at least four others. I have experienced many problems in the past with other roofing contractors - as a rental property investor of 30 years in the Salem-Corvallis-Beaverton areas. This crew is honest and does superior work."

"Kirby was very professional and came out right on time to do an estimate on replacing my 46 year old electric furnace with a new Carrier Hi Efficiency gas furnace and I also wanted to add Air Conditioning as well. Kirby looked everything over and answered all of the questions I had, and I had a lot of them too. I also had a problem with my return air duct. For one it was filthy dirty, and it was broke apart in two places and was only taped together and was pulling in attic dirt, heat and cold into the old furnace. Kirby gave me time to do what I wanted to do before a new furnace was set in place. I had Best Heating & Cooling reinstall my return air duct and they screwed it together and foil taped the seams like I wanted it done. Don’t hesitate to call Best Heating & Cooling because I had 3 other bids done and after talking with Kirby not only did I trusted what he said, Kirby spent the most time with me addressing all my concerns more than any other estimator that showed up. Bottom line is, I got the Carrier products I wanted at a fair price from Best Heating & Cooling. Thank You Kirby! On the day of my new HVAC installation I was contacted by Chuck at Best Heating & Cooling and he informed me that he and his crew were on their way out. They arrived right on time and I met the installers which consisted of Chuck, Jose, & Malcom. These guys all worked great together. Each one knew what to do and what was needed to get done and stayed on task with the job. Chuck was an amazing lead man and answered all of the questions and concerns I may have had. I watched over the job progress and how everyone was doing and it’s amazing how much work three men can get done in a short amount of time, reason being because they are professionals and everyone knows their role. Jose did a great job working with Chuck on the furnace install and Jose did the AC unit and the roof venting as well as reconfigured the return air duct working together with Malcom in the attic to seal and secure my new return air duct just like I wanted it done. No one complained or had an attitude. They just did their jobs and seemed happy to be there working. When the crew cleaned up everything and left even my wife complemented on how well everyone worked together and no bad language or disrespecting anything. I could not ask for a better group of guys to come out and work for me. I got along with everyone and it was a pleasure to have met these men. Thank You, Chuck, Jose and Malcom!"
