"Excellent work laying out a residential landscape using pine bark with river stone walkways lined by larger rocks creating decorative paths for low maintenance, water conserving and weed free garden access. Also pleased with light carpentry to repair fence gates, reinforce some wobbly fence posts, and also hauling away fallen branches and leaves. Always show up on time, review what is to be done and a walk-through afterwards to be sure I'm satisfied with everything. A polite and professional team. Have employed them several times this year, on the recommendation of a friend."

"So, first off, Mr. Hoang will work with what you have got more or less and I believe he is a good guy. Now, I hired him to put up a fence, remove my deck, and pave under where the deck used to be. All in all, the job was done and done pretty well. But he does not listen to the details you want. We asked him to use a screw for our fence, he used staples. We asked him to check for holes along our fence that he was not replacing and he did not but said there were none (there were a few holes in our wire fence that dogs came in through). He threw all of his trash into our recycling containers, used our garden hoses (which I had no problem with, but he never asked and just left them on after leaving too), and was generally very sloppy even after cleaning everything up. Granted his English is not very good, he still understands what you mean and knows what he is doing. But the level of professionalism was pretty low. When he came back to do our deck work he showed up on a Friday, but we scheduled it for the following Wednesday. When I asked him about it he said he scheduled it for that Wednesday, but okay? It is still Friday so you are still 2 days late even if it was that week! No phone call no text, you just have to hope that he shows up. You can call him, but he rarely picks up. I was done by that point but had him finish the job at least. Oh and he dumped a load of extra concrete onto my back lawn to hold it there before hauling it away at the end. He also left a pile of concrete in my front yard in a planter and now has encased it in concrete. Cool. By the end of it, the concrete work was solid and nice, but the surrounding area was covered in concrete dust and chunks of concrete were all over the place. I just wanted him out by that point. I do not recommend him if you are not home 24/7 to maybe catch him if he decides to show up on a random day or if you value cleanliness after a job is done. Granted he did clean up most of his trash and materials, but I mean, still no communication from the guy. All my hoses needed to be cleaned too because of all the concrete he got on them."

Customers say: Quick response

"Rick , Brian and their skilled crew recently completed a back garden project for us, along with a few touch ups in the front. We could not have had a better experience. Having worked with several landscape companies over the years, we found Rare Earth Landscape and their crew to exceed our expectations. Rick and Brian worked with us on every step of the project. They were flexible, patient, honest and fair on all aspects of the job. We have nothing but great things to say about all of their team. We highly recommend them, and we will hire them again on future projects. 5+++ stars!"

"Rich met with us and thru email we finalized the plans. He sent an excellent team of workers out to do the job (Dave, Carlos, Frank & Don). They were all very considerate and helpful. They asked questions throughout the job to verify the finer details and to make sure our needs were met. They worked in mud and rain, so they hosed down the patio and all the walkways every day before leaving. The end product was well done, and everything was cleaned up when they left. Great Team! Thank You. Now the planting begins."

"They did such a good job. The first tree was removed with barely a stump left and the larger tree was trimmed so well that it made the driveway look bigger. They cleaned up afterwards and they did the whole job efficiently and quickly."

"At first, Chea's crew did an excellent job. I thought I was hiring them to maintain the lawn they <br /> installed and do general landscaping like trim hedges when they started to go <br /> wild, weed the flower beds in the middle of the lawn, y'know general gardening <br /> work. But I found that I had to ask them to do anything outside of edging, <br /> mowing and blowing. So I?d ask and they'd do it but usually they'd say they <br /> cdn't do it that same day, but wd plan to do it the following visit, and they <br /> usually would. But then they wd slack off a bit so I'd call or email Chea and <br /> request that they maintain the hedges on a regular basis, without me having to <br /> ask. And they'd go back to handling it. I don?t know if it was just a breakdown <br /> in communication somewhere or what, but it was annoying to me to have to keep <br /> asking. in addition, it seemed every 4 or 5 months the guys would break a <br /> sprinkler head or two, and the only way I?d notice it is was when the brown spots <br /> started to appear in dryer months or when I?m get my water bill showing a higher <br /> than normal amount. It was ongoing. <br /> Last year the crew butchered a mature rosemary bush that is located right in the middle of the front yard along the <br /> sidewalk, at eye level for all passersby to see. I called and emailed Chea <br /> about and sent along pictures and asked him to replace the bush. Somewhere <br /> between 4-6 months later he finally got around to replacing it with a rosemary <br /> plant that was 1/10 the size of what his crew butchered. Now I?m starting to <br /> wonder why am I paying this guy...? That year I paid him slow (but I indeed <br /> paid him) because I just didn?t feel like I was getting my money's worth <br /> anymore. I even hired him to install some new shade-happy plants in the rear <br /> yard, but cautioned him the plants shdnt be too reliant on water because I wanted to <br /> cut back on the amount of watering. He installed about 10 new plants, mostly hydrangeas. <br /> about a year and a half later, 3 of them have died. <br /> The last straw came about 2 weeks ago. it had been a little over 2 weeks since <br /> the crew had come out and the lawn was looking pretty awful, plus that brown <br /> spot was beginning to appear again - same spot as last year and the year before <br /> that... so I decided to mow it myself. OMG!! That beautiful lawn I had paid him $4800 <br /> to install 6 years ago had somehow metamorphosed into 80% crab grass..!! WT...? <br /> yep... about 3-4 inches thick of crab grass... and that ever present brown spot <br /> owed its existence to the fact that the grass had grown over 2 of the sprinkler <br /> heads!! Now, isn?t that the kind of thing you'd notice if you'd been mowing the <br /> same lawn for 6 years? In addition, 3 perimeter sprinkler heads were broken... <br /> the past water bill I just got was approximately $60 higher than it was the <br /> same time last year. Yep, time to part ways. And, BTW, never once did Chea's G. ever apply <br /> weed killer or fertilizer to the lawn. When I asked him about it he said it would be extra... <br /> Again, maybe it was a miscommunication somewhere but lawn care to me means lawn care. Weed, <br /> feed, cut & trim. Crab Grass! After $4800 to install it, and $150/mo for 6 <br /> years to "maintain it" - I?m left with 3-4 inches of thick crab <br /> grass. That?s the reason I roto-tilled the lawn in the first place back in 2006 <br /> and let it lie fallow for a whole winter. Now I am right back where I started 6 years ago. I am not <br /> a happy camper. <br /> I have learned however, next time - if there is one - i will put my expectations down on paper and everybody will sign off on it. <br />"

"We're huge fans of Soil and Green.  Couldn't be easier to work with.  We set them up on a regular schedule, the come when they say, communicate when they can't, do the work they're supposed to with high quality, and clean up.  Billing is easy and the price is right. <br /> We also love them because they are willing to do coaching as well, for their usual hourly rate.  Advice on sprinkler systems, what to plant, landscaping, etc.  Also they gave us a fantastic referral for stump removal to a guy who was just wonderful.  <br /> Can't say enough good things about them. <br />"

FAQs for lawn and garden sprinkler system installation projects in El Cerrito, CA

While drip irrigation systems have higher upfront costs, they can save you money in the long run. By delivering water directly into the soil with minimal evaporation and runoff, drip irrigation systems conserve water and improve efficiency. This means better performance and results for your landscaping, and cost savings over the system's lifespan.

Yes, irrigation systems can add value to your home, especially when installed with high-quality materials and a solid design. A well-irrigated landscape enhances curb appeal and can attract potential buyers. However, poor design or installation may reduce performance and even decrease your property's value. Hiring an expert for installation and performing regular maintenance is key to securing the long-term benefits.

A local irrigation professional can help you check your drip irrigation system to make sure it's in good shape. You'll want to make sure the water pressure is in a good range, repair any leaks as soon as possible, and cover the cost to winterize your sprinkler system as recommended by your irrigation contractor.

A drip irrigation system lasts between 10 and 15 years. This lifespan is determined by the quality of materials, the precision of installation, and regular professional maintenance. Unlike traditional sprinkler systems that can last up to 50 years, the thinner piping used in drip systems is more sensitive to UV exposure and environmental wear. Proper upkeep and timely repairs enhance durability and ensure consistent irrigation performance.

Drip irrigation is best suited for plant beds, containers, greenhouses, and row crops. It supplies water directly to individual plants, ensuring precise moisture control where it is needed most. For areas with simple layouts, above-ground systems work efficiently, while subsurface installations may be cost-prohibitive in spaces with extensive tree roots or irregular terrain. Proper planning maximizes the benefits of drip irrigation across a variety of applications.
