"So, the first one to come and inspect and give an estimate was a different company; if we hadn’t had Prince William Plumbing out here after that, this other company might have scammed us out of many thousands of dollars by replacing our main service line. Prince William Plumbing did a much more thorough investigation and discovered that the problem was a connection to the sprinkler system and not the main line. They saved us so much money, while also being incredibly professional. Even the techs that came out to do the work were awesome. Truly great people at this company."

"JES Foundation contracts all their electrical work out to Root Electric. In the process of installing my new sump pump, back-up sump pump, and sump pump alarm system, it was determined that a new dedicated outlet could not be created due to my existing electrical panel being too small. Thus, I needed to get an electrical panel upgrade. Through JES Foundation, a date and time was arranged to have my new electrical panel upgrade installed. The lead Root electrician Andrew, and his assistant Andy, dd a terrific job installing the new upgraded electric panel. They were both very friendly, efficient, and professional. Andrew afterwards walked me through everything that was done, and answered any questions that I had. They also cleaned up afterwards very well. I highly recommend Root Electric and JES Foundation to anyone who needs their expertise."

"Water was coming through my ceiling. I called After Hours Home Improvement. Reid showed up Monday morning just like he said he would. He found leaks in the bathtub and shower. Tuesday morning his crew showed up and started to work. They worked 6 days/week until the job was completed. They replaced the shower and tub, redid all the tile in the shower and tub area. fixed the ceiling below the leak and painted everything. They picked up everything we needed at Lowe's so I didn't have to figure out how to get it here. Everyday they showed up when they said they would and when the work day was over the rest of the house was clean. Our new bathroom now looks beautiful and the ceiling below the bathroom is good as new. We gave the work crew a key to the house and they came and went as they needed. There were no security problems. Although our cat didn't like having strangers in the house. They did what they said they would, for the price they promised and were even done a few days ahead of schedule. I worked with other home contractors in the past who haven't lived up to my expectations, but if I ever need any kind of work done on my house again After Hours Home Improvement is the company I'll call. They took care of everything we needed: Tile, plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, shower and tub installation, and picking up whatever was needed from Lowe's. Reid , Walter and his crew were a pleasure to work with."

"Very well. The pipe had a pinhole leak in a copper elbow joint and required cutting the pipe, in a confined space, to drain standing water. G**** Miranda did a remarkable job repairing the pipe and an adjacent supply pipe I elected to have repaired in case its joint might leak. Workmanship was exceptional, potential mess and additional Sheetrock damage was minimized, G**** Miranda worked tirelessly for 3 hours and produced a satisfactory repair."

"Mr. Frank and his crew were friendly and professional. He was available immediately to troubleshoot and ready to start when convenient for us, which was immediately. He was hired to replace sewer pumps and was done in a day. I will hire them again when I have plumbing issues."

"They were going to install a ceiling fan I had purchased, but when he came out, he said it would be an additional $250 to install the electrical box. We had already discussed the fact that it didn't have a box prior. so there was just bad communication."

"Well trained electrician arrived on time, offered a fair price, and installed a dedicated outlet for our new sump pump right on the spot. Haven't had the final inspection from the County yet, but the work looks very professional."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Falls Church, VA

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
