Explained what other work needed to be done which matched home inspector's report on this new to us home. Made recommendations.  2nd quote was a little delayed but extremely responsive when I followed up.  Didn't end up using them for the additional repair as it needed to be coordinated with other contracted work so we used the provider the other contractor recommended.  Other chimney contractor made a point of saying that the cleaning done by Affordable Chimney was excellent.  Prices were similar too, in fact overall Affordable was cheaper though we chose a different liner so final cost was less.  I'm sure Affordable would have been a better price with different liner. <br />"

John diagnosed the problem with the chimney flue (a former contractor who re-pointed the bricks dropped concrete into the flue, essentially cutting off all air) and made all the repairs. "The work was done summer of 2011. 08/01/11 is pick -a-date. I don't feel like going to find the paperwork. <br /> The majority of the work was removing the rotted basement and replacing the window frames. <br /> They replaced all 4 windows. Water is no longer streaming from behind the frames when it rains or snow melts. <br /> The company people are professional and very cordial. They explained every thing they did and showed it too me. <br /> April 2013, I noticed a horse  shoe shaped crack in one of the basement windows. I called AAA. They came  out <br /> and identified the crack as a stress crack. They replaced the window at no charge. <br /> At the same time in April 2013, I was concerned with my roof. It does not leak  and the north facing front has lichen  <br /> growing on it. I think his name is Sean. Sean told me how to get rid of the mold and lichen with water and bleach. <br /> I do not need a new roof. <br /> I hope my son likes climbing on roofs because I am not going up there.  <br /> I requested an estimate to replace all my front gutters and than all the gutters. <br /> We walked around the house together to identify what I wanted. <br />  Sean provided me with 2 estimates. One for just the front and the other for the whole house. <br /> I have decided to do it next year because this year I need a new hot water heater. <br /> if I financially can, I will have the front done b4 winter. <br /> They are not pushy. "They did a GREAT job! They first ran into permit problems in Brookline, but Rich (?) was able to fix that and didn't charge me extra. Then on the day of the work, they showed up and worked through to the next day and removed the whole chimney from the inside without making a dent in the house. I was MOST impressed with this as I have 2 small children so dust is a big deal to me. Since they are so prompt and efficiently, i was able to coordinate with my roofer to come in on the same day to seal up the roof. At the end of the day, you couldn't even tell that someone had removed a chimney just minutes before. Highly recommended! <br />"

"I found them on Angies' list. I asked for a quote. Mark Garon quoted it using Google earth - he didn't even have to come to my house. He is an hour away, so that makes sense. When I said I was interested in going to the next step, he came to see me and verified the measurements. They were within 3%, and he honored the original quote. He got a crew of 7 here within a week. They stripped and re-roofed in 2 days. Ice and water barrier for bottom 6', the flatter dormers, and the valleys. Used GAF architectural LIFETIME shingles with the required GAF other products to make the warrantee valid. The plants around the house will be fine...they used heavy duty tarps to get the shingles to the ground. They had someone spend more than an hour using a magnet to pick up the nails on the ground. I had two other quotes from people higher on this list that were much higher in price. I doubt the result would have been better. I feel I got a good value. Now the only problem is that with the new roof, it is clear that I have to paint at least the trim...."

The chimney is a straight shot with a 90 degree turn for attaching the water heater. The installation was quick, including capping the chimney. My experience with Footie is that he does quality, honestly priced work. His quotes are reasonable and accurate. <br />"
