"It was free of charge for them to send someone out to give us their expert opinion on how to resolve our basement leak. They ended up having to tear out the perimeter foundation and add drains and replace our sump pump, next big rain it leaked again and they came out and redone everything again and added a bigger sump pump and that did the trick, we have been basement flood free for 5 years now thanks to everdry. The lifetime warranty is great so when we sell house itâ ll go to the next owners"

"My basement was getting some water in a corner during a heavy rain and I was able to have that corner repaired and also have a sump pump installed that can communicate with my phone and give me alerts to my phone if something isnâ t working properly. The new sump pump alone was worth everything."

"After having another plumber over (who was also highly rated on Angies List), he simply turned on all my hot water lines and told me "All Fixed". I asked him if we needed to flush the hot water heater and he said no. 5 minutes after the first plumber left, my hot water lines had tons of the resin in it again from the hot water heater and was clogging up all my sinks again. I called the first plumber back and he got irritated with me (I felt he did not believe me) and said there was nothing I could do and I needed to buy a new hot water heater. I was not happy with this answer <br /> I called McClean Plumbing finally. They said they couldn't make it out, and I described all that had happened and all the steps I took over the phone. Even though he couldn't come out to my house, this plumber walked me thorough multiple steps and descriptions over multiple calls in enough details that I bought and installed all I needed to fix the issue and save my hot water heater! Very helpful, smart, and considerate guy! Will definitely use them for my future pluming needs. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"They fixed the leak and put in a sump pump and water trench. The basement leaked 2 more times afterwards, but they returned to correct it right away. We were responsible all 3 times to repair the drywall and wood landing at the bottom of the stairs,so I called saying that I should not have to keep fixing those thing over and over. The CEO of the company called back and came out to the house himself to inspect. He had his people come out to the house again to do more that he felt would fix the problem for good, as well fixing the drywall and landing at no cost. It was a frustrating experience, but this company and it's CEO stood by thier work and made it right. I would use them again."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Piqua, OH

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
