"Barack, the owner of New Again Deck Renewal, was easy to work with, generous with his time and advice, and extremely fair in his pricing. He is a popular choice on Angie's list so he stays busy during the non-winter seasons and can be hard to schedule if you wait too long. Working through e-mails, I sent Barack photos of the current condition of the deck and he immediately offered me a couple of options - clean and stain or replace the deck planks. I asked him to come and look at the deck in person, so he did. Once he saw the actual deck he advised me to rip off the deck planks and replace them with new cedar. He assured me that the joists beneath the deck were sound. He suggested that I check out his site on the internet to see the recent work he'd done and to get a feel for different styles. "What you like is up to you," he said. "I can do whatever you want but you have to decide the look that you're comfortable with." So, I did that, and he then directed me to check out the Decks Direct site for railing options and prices. Barack sent me an estimate for his part of the project and carefully reviewed my choices of railing hardware. (I ended up spending about $2,000 for the metal railings). I thought Barack's estimate was very fair and, in addition, he gave me a substantial Angie's list discount. I provided a downpayment and we settled on an install date (trying to work between rainy days). I ordered the railing and had it shipped to my house. Everything went great. Barack and a partner were punctual and came and removed the old deck planks in one day and staged most of the new wood. He came back another day with a crew of four to cut and install the new wood and to assemble and install the railing hardware. The deck looks absolutely wonderful. Everything was cleaned up perfectly. We loved the experience. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to have the deck renewed! I highly recommend this company and, yes, I would use them again."

"We had a patio door replaced by Tom's window team. As with past work down by Craftsmen, the work was professional and the team responded to all questions asked and resolved any issues raised. We were very happy with their work."

"The only thing I was dissappointed in was that the deck has a rough finish, but I suspect that was due to the previous sealing that was done by someone who wasn't experienced (family friend).  This guy said they could buff it next time, so that's OK. <br /> They were very responsive to a spot that appeared to not have taken the stain as well as the rest of the deck surface; they came back right away and resolved that."

"The owner of the company was very friendly, easy to work with and gave a detailed description of the work that would be done. He made sure that the paperwork for the Xcel Energy rebate was completed and he mailed it for me. The day of insulation the team arrived a few minutes early which was fine because they called ahead. All the men were professional, friendly and well trained. The lead guy walked me through the process as they went. Not only did he explain but he also showed me what they were going to do. I asked a lot of questions and they were happy to talk about their jobs and what is required and they were proud of the fact that they are detailed and thorough and they enjoy doing their job. My bathroom vent was not vented properly and they took care of that and explained the process and showed me the parts they were going to use. They cleaned up so well that you could not tell they had even been there. Later that evening the owner called to make sure that I was happy with the service and let me know if there was any issues to let them know. Overall a wonderful company, owner and crew to work with. I would use them again if needed and definitely recommend them to everyone I know."

"If you want steel siding this is the company to go with! I had out many contractors, including the one who put the steel siding on my house originally and by far the put on the best product for the money. They take pride in their work and make sure they address all concerns and want you to be happy with the final results. Alex was great. I really enjoyed the guys doing the install work."

"<p>When Linda came out to see our yard (a small South Minneapolis one), prior to providing a quote, we showed her the plans from the original landscaping job and said we were trying to get back to something as close to this as possible.  She declined to take the plans with her to assist in preparing her quote.  We mentioned that the old mulch would need to be taken out, and she said she would instead cover it with landscaping tarp and put the new mulch over it.  We pointed out that, because of wear and tear from our dogs, the old mulch would need to be leveled out if it was to be left under the new mulch.  The old mulch was not leveled out, and when I called her to complain she came over with the contract in hand, stated that she did not remember ever discussing leveling the old mulch, and that it was not in the contract and so was not something she had agreed to do.  She did do a minor fix on a small corner of the yard, but overall the new mulch was just spread over the old mulch as it was.  </p> <p>The yard has a rock border as well as a line of rocks in the middle of the yard.  The rocks in the middle of the yard were moved and replaced after the landscaping tarp and new mulch had been put down, but the rocks on the borders of the yard were simply covered over with landscaping tarp and mulch with a few rocks pulled from beneath to hold the tarp down.  The result was, to us, a very sloppy looking border that we have reworked ourselves over the course of the summer.</p> <p>The landscaping tarp that was put down under the mulch is of two different colors (grey and black) and might be of two different qualities although that is hard to say for sure.  We had mentioned a concern with the dogs running in the yard, and Linda assured us that the tarp would be held in place with landscape staples.  To us, these staples appear to have been placed very few and far between.</p> <p>Given the price that was charged, we expected a much more finished looking result than was provided.  While our primary objective of cleaning up what had become an eyesore was accomplished with the removal of the weeds and the laying down of new mulch, we would describe the overall job that was done in one word: sloppy.</p> <br />"

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Princeton, MN

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
