"I was so impressed with Gray Construction! Kent responded promptly to me and came to the house to discuss what I had in mind, offering suggestions and providing a fair estimate for the work. Even more surprising, he scheduled and completed the work within a two week period! He and his team did an exceptional job, leaving my property better than they found it, even completing a few small tasks outside of their scope of work for me. Highly recommend Gray Construction!"

"Snow Removal was not an option in the "What work did you need done?" field. They charged $340/homeowner to plow our driveways from the Sat-Sun, 12/13-14/25 6" snowfall! Outrageous!!!"

"The 2 men were here 11 hours & worked hard. They removed a 12x12 foot patio and replaced it. The finished patio is beautiful! I would not hesitate to hire them again! Thank You Estuardo LLC GREAT JOB!"

"It went exceedingly well. As the job was originally hoped to be a lot less involved than it actually turned out to be as the original plumbing needed to be replaced for example, Joe communicated the changes needed from the original plans so that the best work could be done. Joe kept reminding us that we have to be happy with the work. Both my wife and I are very happy with the final look. Both bathrooms and the new family room are beautiful! We thank Joe, Rob and the rest of his associates for an excellent outcome and a more beautiful home."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Reading, PA

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
