"I scheduled a chimney cleaning and inspection with CSE. They had
previously helped restore/fix our old chimney when we moved into the
house. They cleaned the chimney efficiently and without making a
mess. Then, they fixed a draft issue by removing some excess
concrete. Excellent service. Excellent knowledge. And they stand by
their product. Very glad I chose them.
"

"We were in escrow on a new home and the general home inspector noted some issues with the fireplaces and chimneys. We contacted Red Hot Hearth and Home and scheduled an estimate. We were a little taken aback by the cost of the estimate, but as this is a specialty service, we decided to go ahead with the estimate. Jason arrived on time, conducted a very thorough estimate and pointed out things missed/misstated by the home inspector (after all, the general inspector is not an expert). Jason also inspected the grill and fire pit, pointing out additional issues. After close of escrow, we scheduled the work and Jason and his helper arrived on time and were completely prepared to make the repairs, sweep out chimney in need of sweeping, and make the repairs to the top of the chimneys. After cleaning out the on fireplace and sweeping the chimney that needed sweeping, Jason pointed out that the back wall of that fireplace was cracked (a SERIOUS safety issue), likely caused by the previous owner burning wood in a gas fireplace (the gas line was capped off and there were no gas logs in this particular fireplace). We were happy with the repairs and didn't have any problems until we noticed a water leak about a month later. After closer inspection, it was determined that the leak was likely coming from the top of the fireplace that Jason repaired. I contacted the shop and eventually spoke with Francios, who told me that they would take care of the problem. The next available business day, Jason came back with his helper and spent several hours taking the chimney in question apart, inspecting the seals and structure, and making changes to the flashing to prevent future problems. This additional work was done at no charge. Jason also took time to look into the firepit issue and made suggestions that saved us a lot of money we would have spent otherwise. Overall we are very satisfied with the service of the company, both on site and in the office, and will continue to use them.
"

"We've had a problem with birds and a squirrel coming down our chimney. One chimney is in the kitchen for an indoor grill, and there is our fireplace in the den. We have rarely used either the grill or fireplace in the mid-century home we inherited from our parents. We decided to get the chimneys capped to prevent animal invasion. Luna's Chimney Sweep had very good reviews, so I called and was informed by Violet what the process is and that they offer a free estimate. I made an appointment and Pedro Luna and his assistant, Chris, arrived promptly on the appointed day and time. Mr. Luna explained their service and also gave us good information about the operation and mechanisms of fireplaces. He did the inspection and told us the problem areas that he found and gave us the option of how much work we would want to have done on the fireplaces. He said they could start work that day if we accept the estimated price, or make an appointment for them to come back another day. We decided to have the recommended repairs done that day, with cleaning and capping of both fireplaces. The work was completed in a little under three hours. Mr. Luna and Chris were thorough, efficient, and neat. He reviewed the work done with us and made sure we were satisfied with everything. They were careful to clean up afterward and the work areas were left spotless. We are pleased with the work done, the price seemed fair, and Mr. Luna was careful to explain everything and to make sure we understood the hows and whys of what he was recommending and doing. I would not hesitate to use his service again or give a referral to others."

"
I was looking for a bonded and insured chimney sweep to inspect and clean the one fireplace that I use during the holiday season. I have a single-story house with two prefab chimneys that are back-to-back and roughly in the center of my home. The one I use (family room) was last cleaned about ten years ago and we suffered through the hot summer with the smell of smoke filling the house. The other chimney (livingroom) I don't use so I asked them to ignore it.

Scheduling the appointment was a breeze and I called to confirm two days before the scheduled sweep. The office manager (Jo) was very pleasant and helpful throughout the process.

The team arrived right on time the day of the sweep. Burten, Phil, and two other crew members were involved in the cleaning and inspections. Since the placement of the chimneys required walking on the roof I expressed some concern to Phil about the possibility of breaking the arched concrete tiles. Accepting that it was likely some would break, I asked Phil to just let me know if it happened so I could have them repaired. He assured me they'd be careful and he'd let me know if they did happen to break any.

The crew prepped for the sweep by covering everything in the family room with plastic to prevent soot from getting everywhere.

The first thing Burton ran into was difficulty in getting the spark arrestor off of the chimney. It'd been there long enough that it had rusted in place, but ultimately he was able to get it off and spent some time cleaning it up and getting it back into working order so that it could be re-used. He then swept the chimney while the other two crew members vacuumed up the soot and debris.

While this was going on Phil described the type of chimney construction I have, the types of problems they've seen with them, as well as other chimney construction methods and materials used throughout Southern California. He showed me photographs on his iPad of the (frankly amazing) things they've encountered and how they remediate them.

Next up was the inspection of all of the chimney components, including a camera inspection of the entire flue. Burten was able to point out on the video what looked like cracks but were actually seams in the flue liner that were just part of the method of construction. I was also able to see the glaze that has built up over the years of my not cleaning it frequently enough. But fortunately, no cracks or other issues that would prevent me from using the fireplace were noted.

The external inspection (and they did both chimneys) revealed some apparent water seepage around the roof flashing that could be seen on the chimney brick in the attic, as well as some cracks in the external brickwork above the roof that could lead to problems down the road.

Along with the inspection report I asked to have estimates provided to re-do the flashing, strip, prime, seal and paint both chimneys, and replace both spark arrestors. (I'm writing this the day of the sweep and I'll update with additional information as I get it). There was absolutely no pressure to do anything more than the sweep and inspection, and Burten made a suggestion regarding the gas lighter in the firebox that I can do myself.

All in all, I'm relieved that I don't have any major expensive problems to deal with, relieved that this supplier was prompt, knowledgeable, experienced, and honest in their dealings with me, and relieved that I can use my fireplace this holiday season with the peace of mind that it's safe to do so.

Boston Brick is primarily a masonry company and it was obvious to me that they know their stuff. That they took the extra time to explain and demonstrate so much to me -- and do a quality sweep and inspection as well -- makes them a winner in my book. Fantastic value add for $200. I highly recommend them. And no broken roof tiles!

"

"As a result of Shane's work, the guys who installed the new chimneys had to
return to my home several times and re-do a lot of work that had been shoddily and in
haste. Without spending about $500 for Shane's expertise, I would have
been left with two brand new fireboxes that were poorly installed and
not up to code, broken roof tiles, and a bunch of other poor workmanship
on the part of Greg Butler and The Chimney Experts.
"

"Tech was very professional, on time, quick, cleanly and nice. They called quickly after I purchased deal and showed up at scheduled time. All was great except he didn't scrap/brush the top bricks angled towards the flew, right above where the fire burns towards the back? It appears that the flue and entire chimney was swept properly, but this area was missed. Strange as I assumed that area would be the most needing of a sweep? My bad I should have looked more closely during my final inspection.
"
