"We discovered our air conditioning was not cooling (less than 10 degrees difference coming out of the vents) and called during a hot spell to have it serviced. We got an appointment for between 9 AM and noon 2 days later, not bad under the circumstances. Gary called the day before leaving a message to confirm the appointment. Rick showed up half an hour early, which was great... no waiting around for the appointment. He checked out the system and discovered a small leak in the coils. Since the system was 17 years old, he discussed options. The cost of Freon has been going up, so it could cost several hundred to refill it. The system was at the end of its life expectancy and had been riddled with issues. It was an early model Carrier which had been known for leaks and other issues. Since it looked like a slow leak and we could not do an install any time soon, I suggested that we just refill it and look at replacement at a later time. He seemed to think that it should hold for a year. He had been out about 3 years before to refill it, so that seemed like a good estimate. He gave a rough estimate for a new system and we will call at a later time to get a complete estimate.
I appreciated his punctuality and professionalism. We got an honest assessment and not a lot of pressure to buy a new system. This is an honest company which does good work and we will be sure to get a bid from them when we need to replace the system.
