"I conducted a lot of research prior to hiring Air Factor, and obtained bids from 6 different contractors. Air Factor was the ONLY company to calculate the size of my home to determine the appropriate size of the AC unit to properly cool my home. They were VERY thorough on the initial visit - spending 2 hours with me. Tim had a great presentation put together, including reviews from customers, insurance information, and BBB ratings/reviews (ZERO complaints by the way). The detailed information he provided built trust in the contractor. I would use them again in a heartbeat, and will definitely recommend them to my friends and family."

"Very well. Sun Devil perform several test and determined I was low in freon. He added more freon and cleaned the coils. Additionally, he pointed out that my ceiling fans were running in reverse, blowing air upward toward the ceiling, not downward."

"Generally, I'm not a person who does online reviews of construction or service jobs. With that said, I have had such a good experience with Emery Cooling, Heating, and Solar, I feel compelled to share my experience with a top notch contractor. TLDR; Emery Cooling, Heating and Solar is, hands down, the best company I have encountered in Arizona for the past 12 years. A quick summary of my experience from January to mid February 2023. When I filled out the online form for HVAC companies, I knew there would be a lot of responses to sort through. What I didn't expect was a written response generated in the first 4 minutes followed by a phone call from the owner of the company Richard Emery. On that call, Richard carefully listened to my situation, evaluated a course of action and was able to have a recommendation based on ALL OF THE FACTS. I have worked in construction trades, off and on, for almost 40 years. There is something profound about helping someone solve a real world problem and providing a real world solution, at a fair price, quickly and professionally. Richard Emery has hired an impressive group of people with a wide range of experience in several different areas of construction trades. I was astounded to discover how knowledgeable his guys are - not just in HVAC, but also in nearly every trade needed to pull off a major appliance installation. Richard worked with me to find the absolute best option for my needs. He listens carefully to the customer and provides a detailed proposal covering all of the individual aspects of the job. If the quote isn't quite correct, he fixes it -- right then, right now. Many contractors will tell you Customer Service is number one. That sounds good, but Emery Heating, Cooling and Solar LLC isn't most contractors. He and his crew will work as long as it takes, even if that means showing up on days and times most convenient for his customers. Other companies don't usually make accommodations for installation and repair. Richard Emery absolutely does. The owner of the company shows up and works alongside his team. The owner of the company gets his hands dirty to make sure the job is done right. In my particular experience, there was one little thing I wanted done that I didn't see and I missed it on the final walkthrough. I sent a message to the company and Richard responded almost immediately. Within 15 minutes, someone was at my house and fixed the issue. It was after 7:00pm. It was dark. 20 minutes after my call, it was also DONE. Earlier, I started this review saying I never give online reviews. I expect professionals to do professional work. I have been disappointed with other companies. I have "fought" with contractors to fulfill the scope of work that was IN WRITING, on the contract. That didn't - and I suspect Wouldn't Happen with this company. I am beyond impressed. I couldn't be happier about our family's decision to hire Emery Heating, Cooling and Solar. I have two words to finalize this long review: HIRE THEM. _____________ Period. Full Stop."

"Lou contacted me shortly after I entered my info on the Home Advisor site. He came to evaluate the problem the next afternoon, as I was out of town when he contacted me. Lou was able to fix both of my out of service units and restore my air conditioning. My system is 15 - 17 yrs old. When I need a new system I'll contact Lou to hook me up. He was honest and knowledgeable.. Dr Michael Bush - Chandler, AZ"

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
