"Majano Heating and AC came out on schedule. They found that the AC breaker had tripped, and guessed that this was caused by the compressor going bad. I felt stupid for not checking the breaker myself. They charged me $60 for a call-out fee, which I suppose is about average. They also quoted a price of $6000 for a new system or $3000 for just a new compressor, which, again, is probably about average these days, yet still outrageous."

"I have a min split that stoped cooling, that was installed by another company. A year after the other company installed it it quit working. I called tackle and they fixed the problem. After the quality, efficiency, reliability and knowledge, i called them back to move out outside unit on my house to another side of the house. I will not use any other company for my a/c needs."

"My AC went out on a Friday headed into the long Memorial Day weekend. Everett Maintenance contacted me just moments after submitting my information on HomeAdvisor. They were able to set up an appointment later that afternoon, and the technician called ahead to confirm and gave me an ETA. Brandon was very friendly and professional and diagnosed the problem right away. He gave me a reasonable estimate and was able to fix the issue in just 30 minutes start to finish. He also checked a few extra things like the refrigerant and pointed out potential problems to look out for in the future. I would strongly recommend their service."

"The was a smaller scale job, but I am highly satisfied! Professional, polite, efficient and I will certainly use Nu-Air in the future. Highly recommend."
Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.
Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.
Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.
Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.
Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
