"Air Control Systems did excellent quality work and kept me updated on how the job was going throughout the day. They arrived exactly when they said they would, the price ended up being exactly what I was quoted, despite the fact that they ran into unexpected challenges. They were very professional overall and I would recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their heating and cooling in their home."

"Home Pro Heating and Air did an excellent job fixing my A/C. From the moment I called, they were professional, responsive, and straightforward. The technician arrived on time, diagnosed the issue quickly, and explained everything in a way I could understand. The repair was done efficiently, and my air conditioning has been running perfectly ever since. Their pricing was fair, and the level of service was outstanding. It’s rare to find a company that’s both honest and highly skilled, but Home Pro proved to be both. I’m extremely satisfied and would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work."

"We were extremely pleased with Mark Hamar and his team, David Rose and Jeff Hall. The team arrived on schedule and all the work was completed as requested. The team worked well together, were very professional and pleasant. We went with the 2.5 ton Bryant heat pump which replace a 25+ year old system. We had only moved in to our modular home about a year ago and new the replacement was needed within 3 years. We went ahead and had it replaced before going through another winter and worrying whether it would hold up. The previous owners had a dog and the duct cleaning proved very beneficial. We would highly recommend this company for any HVAC work needed."

"Fantastic! I needed to have a P-trap installed under my bathroom sink and have the toilet reset; the contractors I had hired did not complete the work. After getting stood up and no return calls from the contractor, I decided to cut my loss. I was under a time crunch because I had sold my home, and the buyers were taking possession of the home within two days. I called approximately 10 plumbing companies, and they were all booked out anywhere from 1 week to several weeks. I called D&F Plumbing, spoke with Amy, and explained my dilemma. Amy is awesome and got a plumber out to my home the same day. Joe Hammers greeted me with a big smile and put me at ease. I found it remarkable considering the weather was in the mid-'90s, and I do not have air conditioning in the home. Joe is very personable, knowledgeable and quickly diagnosed the problem. He explained to me what I needed, as I had never heard of a P-Trap. He repaired the pipe under the bathroom sink and explained my options regarding the toilet, which is almost 60 years old. I am very appreciative and fortunate to have found D and F Plumbing after getting burned in the past by a plumbing company and a contractor. The price was very reasonable. I am thrilled that Dand F Plumbing is an honest, reputable, customer service-oriented business. They are at the top of an exceptional company. Thanks, Amy, Joe Hammers, and Dand F Plumbing, for going above and beyond. They are a family business since 1927. I will use them for my future plumbing needs and refer them to my friends and family. To anyone reading this view, please support our local and small businesses, especially family-owned companies—who live in the communities they serve."

FAQs for air conditioning projects in Salem, OR

Most professional HVAC technicians require two to three hours to complete an expansion valve replacement. The timeframe depends on your unit's accessibility and whether additional repairs are needed. The process involves recovering refrigerant, removing the old valve, installing the new component, and recharging the system. Scheduling during less busy seasons may result in more convenient appointment times.

Operating your air conditioner with a malfunctioning expansion valve isn't advisable. Continuing to run the system could potentially damage other components, particularly your compressor, which is significantly more expensive to replace. If you notice performance issues like inconsistent cooling or unusual noises, it's best to have your system inspected before continuing regular use.

Expansion valves don't have a standard replacement schedule, as their longevity depends on system usage, maintenance frequency, and environmental factors. Regular professional maintenance helps identify potential valve issues before they cause system failure. Having your HVAC system serviced annually allows technicians to monitor component condition and recommend preventative replacements when necessary.

Refrigerant leaks require prompt professional attention. If your expansion valve is leaking, you'll likely notice reduced cooling performance and possibly hear hissing sounds near the unit. Addressing leaks quickly prevents further system inefficiency and avoids the environmental impact of released refrigerant. Your HVAC technician will need to repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper refrigerant type and amount.

Because many AC issues present similar symptoms, professional diagnosis is recommended. Problems like inadequate cooling, inconsistent temperatures, or strange noises could indicate expansion valve issues, but might also stem from refrigerant leaks, electrical problems, or airflow restrictions. A qualified HVAC technician has the tools and expertise to accurately identify the root cause and recommend appropriate repairs.
